The rights of women are under attack across our country. Now, the lawmakers in North Carolina are trying to strip women of our rights to self-determination and control over our reproductive health.

The NC House of Representatives has introduced House Bill 533, a so-called Heartbeat Bill. This bill would ban abortion after detection of a heartbeat which occurs between the 5th and 6th week of pregnancy. At that point, a woman is only one to two weeks late and may not even know she is pregnant. The only exception to this would be to protect a woman’s health. However, in other states that have passed a so-called Heartbeat Bill, women have been denied health preserving abortions because doctors were afraid to risk their license. 

If this law had been around 27 years ago, I likely would have been forced to continue my first pregnancy despite having spiking blood pressure, an early sign of a toxic reaction to pregnancy, at only 8 weeks. My reproductive health, my total health, hell, possibly even my life would have been at risk. Please sign this petition and let our representatives (in NC and throughout this country) know we want to protect women’s rights to self-determination and that we DON’T WANT NC HOUSE BILL 533 to become law.
