Why this petition matters

Started by Megan Majcher

We invite you to take action to Keep NA Libraries Strong.

On August 17th, the North Allegheny library secretaries were called to a meeting with the upper administrative staff. At that meeting they were told the School Board intended to vote to eliminate their positions, effective July 1, 2023, at the October Board meeting.

These positions are essential to our NA Experience.  Because of these positions, students benefit from open access to safe, welcoming libraries during, before and after school.  Because of these positions, our librarians can be the instructional leaders they are called to be.  Because of these positions, students have consistent, experienced assistance finding appropriate material.  Because of these positions, students get tech devices fixed and back to the classroom faster. Because of these positions, students are engaged and supported individually and in groups.

Please send the message to our School Board that high-achieving students demand the high-performing, award-winning libraries we have come to expect. The "compass-based" strategic plan of the district rests quite literally on these support positions. Do not cut library positions or library programming. Request the School Board remove this from any agenda.
