The issue

Permit GE/DP-35842/2022, to build 4 storey retail and services and 3 storey apartment buildings at the corner of Murrumbeena and Dandenong Roads. Development WILL generate more than 130 car movements per hour at the Murrumbeena/Dandenong Road corner and surrounding local streets.  More than 90% of incoming and outgoing traffic from the proposed developments MUST travel via local surrounding streets and past Murrumbeena Primary School.

Proposed development provides inadequate car parks for the significant increase in working, visiting and customer needs of the development. Immediate street parking is declared resident only permit parking and parking is currently exhausted, suffering from an over demand.

Only Cars travelling on Dandenong Road from the East will be able to turn into the 4 level retail development. All cars entering the 4 level development from other directions must travel via local streets (Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart road), adding hundreds of Cars past Murrumbeena Primary School and childcare centres every day. All Cars exiting the developments MUST turn left into Murrumbeena Road and travel via local surrounding streets. There is NO ability for Cars to turn right or continue immediately westward on Dandenong Road.

Only 120 car parks will be provided for the 4 levels of retail, shops, services and food development, significantly inadequate for the needs of the building, especially compared to Carnegie Central (500m away) which is 3 levels of retail and more than 400 car parks.

The significant increase in traffic and impacts to local car parking will worsen the travel and liveability for local residents, primary school students, Chadstone shopping customers, commuting traffic, access to Murrumbeena train station, users of the vitally important Dandenong Road bus services and general traffic flow on the critically essential Dandenong Road.

The impacts of this development is so significantly detrimental to the local community and, considering the proximity of other established retail centres (Chadstone, Carnegie, Neerim Road, Oakleigh), the minor benefits, if any, are outweighed by these disastrous consequences.

Sign this petition to be provided to the Glen Eira City Council to confirm your support for the proposed development to be stopped and prevent the impacts to local traffic, parking, our streets, neighbourhood character and safety of local children.
