The Issue

The builders have modified their plans to 3-story structures.  It remains a multi-Building complex for 70-units.  Our serene neighborhood, with its charming rural setting, trees, and open spaces, is facing an unprecedented threat. The proposed development of three 3- story apartment buildings at 1221 Liberty Pike would introduce 70 units and over 200 residents, forever altering our community. This drastic change is not only inconsistent with the character of our neighborhood but also poor urban planning.

The location of these apartment buildings, adjacent to an electrical substation, raises concerns about safety, noise pollution, and the overall quality of life for current and future residents. These are not just concerns for our local community but for the broader planning and development standards that should prioritize sustainable and sensible urban growth.

Breckenridge  & McKays Mill and adjoining  properties are cherished for our open spaces and lifestyle enhancements.  Building 3-story housing in our community with high-density housing threatens the established character of our neighborhoods and the area. The pressure of increased traffic, demand on our public schools, as well as water erosion concerns.

We need to advocate for a development plan that considers the well-being of current residents, as well as the well-being of the apartment dwellers in the shadow of an Electrical substation, and respects the historical and environmental integrity of our neighborhood, and echoes the values of careful and conscious growth.

I urge city planners, representatives, and local officials to consider the long-term impacts of this development. There are alternative ways to address housing needs without compromising our community’s character and natural beauty.

We must stand together to protect our neighborhood from a high density development plan and we must care for the people and environment that make our neighborhoods special. Please join us in opposing this project and calling for a reevaluation of the proposed site plans to ensure a future that works for everyone.

“The Planning Commission and Board of Mayor and Aldermen need to hear from area residents and receive reasonable arguments as to why they should or should not approve this proposed change to Envision Franklin and the zoning designation. I have to ask: would any of us live that close to a major electrical substation? I think not, so why would we expect our workforce (police, fire personnel, teachers, county and city employees and service employees) to live there? Appreciate the interest from our citizens.
