Stop Misusing Sherpa!

Stop Misusing Sherpa!
The Issue
Over the last 3+ decades, businesses, media and various other organizations across the world have inappropriately associated the word "Sherpa" with a form of servitude (as a laborer, porter or guide). Contrary to popular (and even racist) belief, Sherpa is not a servant, porter, guide, type of clothing, or any other brand.
Sherpa is an ethnic group of people originally from the regions around the borders of Tibet and Nepal.
The commercialization of the name Sherpa, based on racial stereotypes of the Sherpa people, must stop. Describing them as porters or guides reduces their cultural identities to a mere occupation.
How is associating an entire ethnic group to a specific job okay? After a while, how does this not start to sound like a caste system? How is subjecting an entire ethnic group to a stereotype okay? How is it okay for these organizations, who have no association with the Sherpa culture whatsoever, to profit off of the Sherpa people, especially after subjecting them to a stereotype? After a while, how is this not reminiscent of the colonial era?
The likes of Hollister, American Eagle, Silicon Valley and even the G20 have commoditized and capitalized on the stereotypes of the Sherpa people while ignoring the racist undertone of their use of Sherpa.
We are calling for all businesses and organizations to stop the rampant cultural misappropriation and commodification of the word Sherpa. We are calling on companies to remove Sherpa from their brand and product names. We are reclaiming Sherpa!
How Will This Petition Help?
We aim to collect 10K+ signatures for this petition and plan to use it as a tool to bring this issue to the attention of global media. Through reaching a larger audience, we hope the subdued voices of the Sherpa community will be heard by these large organizations that are completely insensitive to profitting off of racial stereotypes.
Below is a list of a few organizations profiting off of the racial stereotype of the Sherpas.
