In these uncertain and unsettling times, in the US and around the world, we are grateful for your shared concern about the ongoing misuses and distortions of the legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
We reiterate our claim that the question we take from Bonhoeffer’s life and theological insight is not “is this a Bonhoeffer moment?” but, “who is Christ for us today?” We reiterate our claim that Bonhoeffer teaches us that Christ is to be found in the presence and suffering of the neighbor, whether across the street or across the border. We reiterate our claim that Bonhoeffer has inspired Christians and non-Christians around the world to work for a society based on solidarity and humanity.
In a few days, the movie Bonhoeffer. Pastor. Spy. Assassin. will premiere in New York City; it will open in theaters across the United States on November 22nd. The lead actors in the film have issued their own statement; it resonates deeply with Bonhoeffer’s lessons about humanity and inclusivity.
