Tully's Kennel has been called "borderline" puppy-mill as long as I can remember. If you live in Omaha, you may have heard about Tully's. These puppies have sit in a crate where they not only eat, but sleep, and poop/pee. Tully's Kennel needs to make immediate action to give better treatment to the dogs. This has run on for too long and we want this cycle of mistreatment end.
In my heart I believe that at one point in time Tully's was an excellent place to visit, and buy from. But within the last maybe 10 -15 years or so things have changed. One former worker states, "Tully's Kennel is a complete puppy mill. These puppies that get brought into the kennel are received from mills. They are NOT in compliance with USDA, Human Societies, Cruelty Prevention societies, and kennel clubs.”
She states (and others who formerly work there agree) that; “when puppies come into the facility, the workers are told to wash the puppies to rid the smell and stools that are attached to the puppy's skin at times from being in a puppy mill. It was heartbreaking for me to work there and see how sick the puppies came in.”
While visiting you will notice some dogs you are able to play. During the nicer weather most dogs are kept in their rows of kennels for a period of time called "nap time" where some dogs sleep, and others whine quietly. Outside, there is a cemented area of about 6 fenced in areas, side by side where you can play with the pups. If the weather is not nice out there are about 6 cemented areas that are surrounded by privacy fenced-areas to take out a pup to play with. There are also smaller pups in kennels, where you have to be a "serious inquiry" to play with, and cannot come out and play with everyone. These are three or four pound dogs who someone would potentially want to play with. The reason they cannot be seen by anyone other than a serious inquiry is because of a serious condition called Hypoglycemia. This is not a disease. It is instead a symptom that points to an underlying medical condition. Having these dogs playing all day would be more harmful to their health. New dogs are also not subject to play with. Another former worker states the conditions of the kennels, she recalls: "a time [she] tried putting a plastic tray and a blanket in a miniature greyhounds cage because its small legs were falling through the floor of the wire cage and an employee took it out and told me they wanted customers 'to feel sorry for the dogs so they would be more likely to adopt them.' The dogs live in that wire cage with a wire floor and many of them had such small feet they could fall through. [She] only saw puppies being lifted from the kennels when they were being looked at by customers or getting medicine from employees."
Then, when it comes to the purchasing of a puppy, "Your puppy get's held down to receive that tattoo.” With her personal experience this former employee states; “I had to do this and remember trying to hold back tears from hearing the puppies squeal from the pain."
This person also states that boarding your dog there can be dangerous as well, "[areas of the kennel] wouldn't be cleaned up until whoever works in the kennel feels like it. Not to mention your dog will be yelled at for barking or [even] kicked at." I have had complaints that people have come to pick up their dog and their dog had to go to the vet shortly afterwards because they had been diagnosed with a case of kennel cough. Kennel cough used to describe a complex of infections that are both viral and bacterial. It's similar to bronchitis/chest colds in humans, it causes inflammation of a dog’s voice box and windpipe.
Please help to stop the mistreatment of these puppies by signing this petition, to raise awareness. Help share, and contact if you have had personal experience with this company. We are not stating that the people who run this company are bad people, BUT need to have respect for the dogs.
I am still gathering information/stories/research on this subject. It would be of great help to me if you had information, to email me right away.
I want everyone to remember: I'm not saying the staff is bad, they are doing what they are told to do. I want to have the owners realize that we are aware that there is mistreatment, and want it to end.
