The Issue

The animals at the Portage County Humane society have been getting slowly worse treatment and less opportunities for adoption while the community has been lied to about euthanasia at the facility. An apparent “no kill shelter” had an email leak that dogs are being put down. Volunteers have been cut out completely causing the animals living conditions and socializing to drastically decrease. The shelter has also been turning down adoptions more than accepting them, even with good potential homes.

A more socialized animal is one that has a better chance at adoption, and the volunteers were the ones doing this. As a community we want the shelter to bring back volunteers and be transparent about requirements for adoption and if animals are being euthanized. Bonded pairs are being knowingly split up. The dogs and cats at the shelter are not being given a fair chance at adoption because the organization is turning away free help from the community.

With all of the news of wrongdoings continuing to come out about the Portage County shelter now is the time to act. We can’t wait for more animals to be euthanized and we cannot allow for them to be mistreated.
