Stop Mississippi SB 2775 That Penalizes Victims of Cruelty

Stop Mississippi SB 2775 That Penalizes Victims of Cruelty
The Issue
Mississippi SB 2775, introduced by Senator David Blount, targets reckless owners, so if your dog injured someone and did serious bodily damage, you could spend up to 10 years in jail. It seems a little harsh, but that's not the biggest problem with the bill.
SB 2775 automatically deems any dog that engages in or is trained for fighting as "dangerous."
In essence, SB 2775 stigmatizes dogs seized from fighting yards -- the animal victims of cruelty. As we've seen in the Michael Vick case, all dogs are individuals. Some of the Vicktory dogs have gone on to be therapy dogs, but under SB 2775, they would have been condemned.
Please speak up for the victims of animal abusers and ask Mississippi legislators to oppose SB 2775.
