The Issue

As a concerned citizen of India, I am deeply troubled by the ongoing mining activities and the widespread cutting of trees in the pristine Aravalli Ranges. The Supreme Court's recent decision to permit the cutting down of forests in the Aravallis below 100 meters height is extremely worrisome. These actions threaten not only the environment but also the well-being of future generations.

The Aravalli Range, stretching over several states including Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi, is a critical ecological zone. It acts as a green lung for northern India, significantly influencing the climate and air quality of the region. According to the report by the Forest Survey of India, this region has already lost more than 25% of its forest cover over the past few decades. The rampant mining and deforestation are pushing this region to the brink of ecological disaster.

Mining activities have disrupted the natural habitat of numerous species, contributing to a loss in biodiversity. Trees act as natural barriers against desertification; their removal could exacerbate land degradation, affecting agriculture and local livelihoods. This situation jeopardizes the already fragile ecological balance of the area, which could have lasting repercussions on communities and wildlife.

The Supreme Court's decision contradicts India's commitment to global climate goals and sustainable development. We call upon policymakers and judiciary bodies to reconsider and introduce stricter regulations that protect the Aravalli Ranges from further harm. Community-driven afforestation initiatives should be encouraged, and alternatives to mining in ecologically sensitive areas must be pursued.

By signing this petition, you are urging the Indian government and legal authorities to act decisively in preserving the Aravalli Ranges. Let's stand together to protect our natural heritage and ensure a healthier, greener future for coming generations. Please join me in this cause and sign the petition now and share it to all possible so that we can save our Pride!
