The Issue

The proposed expansion of the Milwaukee Rescue Mission into New Berlin (close to Muskego border) has been met with significant concern from local residents, and for good reason. While the mission of helping those in need is undeniably noble, the expansion plans as currently proposed raise several important issues that must be addressed to safeguard our communities.

Firstly, the introduction of such a facility can potentially lead to increased foot traffic and congestion in our town. We have Marcus and AirCity with kids right across Moorland. The roundabouts are already busy during rush hour. New Berlin and Muskego are characterized by their residential tranquility and small-town charm, which may be disrupted by a sudden influx of outsiders. We do not have public transit to make this easily accessible like Waukesha or MKE does.

Secondly, there are concerns about the impact on property values. Historically, the placement of similar facilities in residential areas has been associated with a decrease in property values. For many residents, their home is their most significant investment, and any threat to its value needs to be carefully weighed.

Additionally, safety is a paramount concern. While the majority of individuals seeking help are not a threat, the presence of a large population of individuals dealing with complex issues such as substance abuse or mental health struggles may necessitate increased security measures, for which our communities may not be equipped. Fire and police are already pushing for additional positions within NB.

It is also important to consider whether there are existing facilities that could serve these needs without disrupting new areas. There may be opportunities to expand or improve current services in a way that does not require the establishment of new facilities in suburban areas.

Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that any expansion of resources for those in need is done in a way that is both effective and considerate of existing communities. We urge the Milwaukee Rescue Mission and local authorities to reconsider the proposed locations and to work collaboratively with residents to find a more suitable solution.

Please sign this petition to prevent the proposed Milwaukee Rescue Mission expansion into New Berlin until these critical community concerns are adequately addressed.
