The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, parents, students, and concerned community members of Middletown Township, overwhelmingly oppose the proposed school closures, rezoning, and consolidation plans put forth by the Board of Education. These drastic and unacceptable changes were made without proper transparency, community input, or consideration of the long-term damage to our children’s education and well-being.

OUR DEMANDS:
Immediate Halt to School Closures and Rezoning

We demand a moratorium on all school closures and rezoning efforts until the community has been fully engaged in the decision-making process.
Community-Led Budget Solutions

We request that the Board of Education extend the budget deadline to allow the community, parents, and local leaders to propose alternative budget solutions that do not involve shutting down schools or consolidating them into larger, overcrowded facilities.
Full Transparency & Public Hearings

We demand publicly accessible, well-advertised community meetings where parents, students, and taxpayers can voice their concerns and present solutions.
The Board must disclose all financial data that led to this decision and allow independent budget analysts to review alternative paths forward.
A Moratorium on Forced School Consolidation

Closing our neighborhood schools and merging students into massive institutions degrades the quality of education, increases class sizes, and negatively impacts student well-being.
We demand a thorough impact assessment on student safety, mental health, academic performance, and transportation concerns before any consolidation moves forward.

WHY THIS MATTERS:
Shutting down schools destabilizes families and communities.
Bigger schools do NOT equal better education—overcrowded classrooms mean less individual attention for students.
Middletown residents deserve a say in how OUR tax dollars are spent. The Board of Education works for US, not the other way around.
Children deserve stability—forcing them to move schools abruptly and adjusting to entirely new environments can cause emotional and academic setbacks.

OUR MESSAGE TO THE BOARD:
You were elected to serve this community, not dismantle it. By making sneaky, unilateral decisions without consulting parents, teachers, and students, you have failed in your duty. We demand accountability and a seat at the table to protect the schools that serve our children and future generations.

We will not stand by while our schools are shut down and our children's futures are compromised. Middletown deserves better.
