Stop Microsoft from Partnering with Elon Musk

Stop Microsoft from Partnering with Elon Musk

Das Problem

Goal of the Petition
To urge Microsoft to refrain from forming any partnerships with Elon Musk, and to uphold its ethical and democratic values by distancing itself from individuals who promote harmful ideologies, disinformation, and extremist behavior.

What Drives Me
In a world increasingly polarized by misinformation, hate, and unchecked influence, we need tech leaders who stand firmly on the side of truth, responsibility, and inclusivity. Microsoft has long been one of the few remaining major tech companies to uphold those values — but a partnership with Elon Musk would betray that legacy.

Main Message
Elon Musk has, in recent years, moved from being an innovator to a deeply divisive and controversial figure. His behavior and public statements have raised global concern. Among them:

  • Spreading conspiracy theories on social media
  • Endorsing racist and antisemitic narratives
  • Mocking democratic institutions and human rights efforts
  • Flirting with fascist imagery, including gestures resembling Nazi salutes
  • Using his platform to amplify lies and far-right extremists

Such actions are not just personal choices — they carry global consequences. His control over powerful platforms (like X, formerly Twitter) has allowed toxic narratives to thrive, weakening trust in democracy and fueling social division.

A partnership between Microsoft and Elon Musk would legitimize this behavior, sending a dangerous message that influence and capital can override basic ethical boundaries.

We, the undersigned, call on Microsoft to:

  • Reject any partnerships — commercial or strategic — with Elon Musk or his affiliated entities.
  • Publicly affirm its commitment to democratic values, anti-racism, and factual integrity.
  • Lead by example in an era where technology and ethics must go hand in hand.

Microsoft has an opportunity — and a responsibility — to show the world that principles come before profits.

Additional Note
ChatGPT, the most visited AI platform in the U.S. with 780 million visits in April 2025, is developed by OpenAI — a company funded and strategically supported by Microsoft. By comparison, Elon Musk’s chatbot “Grok” attracted just 5 million visits in the same period, according to Similarweb data. The performance gap is massive — and so is the difference in public trust, impact, and vision.

Even more troubling is the fact that Elon Musk is currently suing OpenAI, the very organization Microsoft has invested in and helped build. In his lawsuit, Musk accuses OpenAI of abandoning its mission of public benefit — all while he himself has built a closed-source, for-profit, and politically weaponized chatbot under his own control.
(FAZ article)

But the ethical concerns go even deeper:
Musk’s chatbot Grok has been found to spread racist conspiracy theories — including the notorious and dangerous “White Genocide” myth, which claims that white people are being systematically “replaced.” This narrative has been repeatedly used by white supremacists and linked to real-world violence, including mass shootings.
(Der Standard article)

A platform that amplifies this type of extremist ideology has no place in Microsoft’s ecosystem — and certainly should not be legitimized by any form of integration or partnership.

So the question must be asked:
Why should Microsoft partner with a person who not only attacks its own AI partner in court — but also operates a chatbot that spreads hate and incites division?

The idea of integrating Grok into Microsoft's Azure ecosystem — as recently reported — isn't just ethically questionable; it's a strategic and moral contradiction. It sends a dangerous message: that power, not principle, decides who gets a seat at the table.

Microsoft must say no — for its users, its partners, and the future of responsible AI.
