The Issue

The San Diego-Tijuana River Valley crisis is the largest human rights issue and environmental crisis of our time, and yet where are the national alarms?

Communities in South San Diego, Imperial Beach, San Ysidro, Coronado, and surrounding areas have been left to contend with alarming levels of pollution, including elevated hydrogen cyanide and billions of gallons of sewage flowing into San Diego from Mexico each year.

For many in South San Diego, the situation feels as if they are being treated as second-class citizens in their own homes.

Decades of neglect, mismanagement, and a lack of coordinated action by both government and non-governmental organizations have left the South San Diego grappling with a profound environmental crisis, leading to what should be called “America's Largest Open Sewage.”

California’s response to the crisis has faced widespread criticism, with representatives minimizing and disregarding the concerns of local residents. Residents have been offered ineffective air filters, told to avoid closed public polluted beaches and state parks, and advised to stay indoors during certain hours due to excess hydrogen cyanide in the air.

Simply put, this is environmental injustice and inequality at its core.

Where is the government? Isn’t it the duty of the United States to protect the life, liberty, and justice of all its citizens? Where is that protection now?

We ask you to join local Citizens of South San Diego Bay and sign our petition asking President Trump to declare an emergency on the border and implement a plan to restore our ocean, river and border environment.

US citizens on the border, right now, are suffering from the largest environmental disaster in the United States. Our homes, K-12 schools, parks, beaches and our new billion dollar Navy Seal Team facility in Coronado all suffer from toxic air and water contamination from Mexico.

Our beaches have been continuously closed for 1010+ days!

With a Presidential Emergency order in hand and a list of specific projects we can solve the cross border sewage problem in less than three summers by using proven sustainable technology.

By presidential order we ask that the EPA USMCA Comprehensive Plan / California State Bill SB 507 created under the Biden/Harris/Newsom Administration be completely STOPPED and investigated.

This plan has been an ongoing disaster for our border community.

SB507 has or will:

  • Dump 480% more Mexican fecal sludge into our ocean off Imperial Beach and Coronado, closing our beaches permanently.
  • This plan will perpetually bring all of Mexico's sewage into the USA and US citizens will pay the bill to treat this water forever.
  • Permanently pollute the national wildlife refuge in the Tijuana River Valley.
  • Install more than 400 acres of Mexican sourced sewage ponds in our 1500 acre San Diego County Regional Park.
  • Build two permanent MX fecal sludge ponds in our State and County Parks. Costing CA taxpayers $9 Million per year to dispose of the sewage sludge into our county landfills.

Clearly the Biden/Harris/Newsom plan grossly deviates from the 2019 Trump EPA Arcadis Plan.

One plan puts the safety and health of American citizens first, is sustainable for the long term health of the environment, and holds Mexico accountable.

The other plan puts a foreign country in the position to grossly pollute the United States for decades to come and will make US citizens sick with long lasting chronic disease.

Mexico has already shown it does not care about the continuous dumping of sewage and toxic chemicals into the United States.

President Trump and Administration we desperately need your help and your Executive Emergency order with a tailored realistic plan that puts America First!
