The Issue

Living close to Hwy 75 in Blount County, Alabama, I am deeply concerned about the proposed purchase and permit of a medical waste processing facility near our homes. The technology involved in processing medical waste is relatively young and hasn't been thoroughly tested for long-term safety. This brings obvious concerns about potential risks, especially in a county and city where the infrastructure might not be fully equipped to handle emergencies associated with such a facility.

The proposed location for this facility is alarmingly close to a local creek and sits within a flood zone, heightening the risk of contamination to our precious watershed. Clean water is vital to our community, and any threats to it should be taken seriously.

Additionally, this facility could significantly reduce the property value of the two neighboring subdivisions. It also raises safety concerns for the children in our community, who would be living just a stone's throw away from an industrial site dealing with hazardous materials.

Blount County deserves better. We need thorough assessments, alternative safer locations, and community engagement before making irrevocable changes to our neighborhood. The health, safety, and property values of our community should not be compromised for hastily approved industrial projects.

Join me in urging local authorities to reconsider this proposal! Our voices matter, and together we can protect our community’s future. Please sign this petition to stop the establishment of the medical waste processing facility on Hwy 75.
