As families living next to the proposed site for a McDonald's in Elgin, SC, we are deeply concerned about the impact this development will have on our community. Elgin is a unique town and we cherish its charm and tight-knit community spirit.  A 24-hour fast-food chain threatens to disrupt our way of life.

The site in question requires a zoning change from office commercial to GC1, which would bring significant changes to our neighborhood. Our homes, the nearby church, and the cemetery would all be affected. Families with loved ones buried in the cemetery deserve to maintain its sanctity, free from the potential disturbance of loudspeakers or noisy patrons at all hours.

The proposed McDonald's also raises concerns about increased traffic on White Pond Road and #1, which are already congested. The influx of vehicles could lead to hazardous conditions for pedestrians and residents nearby. Furthermore, reports have indicated that the presence of McDonald's establishments can correlate with a rise in crime rates, something our peaceful community does not need and does not have the police force to handle.

Local small businesses may also be adversely affected by this corporate entity entering the scene, draining resources and reducing the customer base for existing local economies. It's crucial that we focus on sustainable growth that supports our local business owners rather than overshadowing them.

Our quality of life is at risk due to this potential zoning change. The lights, noise, traffic, and waste associated with a 24-hour operation are not in line with the values we hold dear in Elgin.
