As a local resident of Devizes, I am deeply concerned about the proposed construction of a McDonald's in our community.

While many people have no objection to having McDonald's in Devizes itself, it must be situated in a more suitable location away from residential areas, such as the nearby trading estate. 

Highway Safety and Severe Traffic Congestion
The proposed site, located on Horton Road, is in close proximity to an already busy roundabout that experiences heavy congestion, especially during peak commuting hours. Introducing a McDonald's at this location will exacerbate traffic issues, creating bottlenecks that inconvenience both residents and commuters. Increased traffic inevitably raises the risk of accidents, posing a threat to community safety, particularly for children and pedestrians in the area. This location is simply unfit to handle the additional burden of traffic a McDonald's would bring.

Impact on Local Community
A McDonald's franchise would overshadow smaller, community-centered establishments. This could lead to a decline in local patronage, negatively affecting our economy and potentially driving valuable local businesses to close.

Environmental Considerations
The environmental impact of constructing and operating a McDonald's must also be taken into account. The increase in litter, noise, and light pollution will disturb our community's peace and natural beauty. Not to mention the consistent smell that nearby residents would need to put up with.

I am calling on the local council and planning authorities to reconsider the proposed location of this McDonald's and seek alternative sites that are more appropriate and less disruptive.
