The two day Judicial Review for Enderby Wharf starts at the High Court tomorrow and Wednesday at 10am. It's a public hearing, so you're welcome to attend (you don't have to stay the whole day). It's at the Royal Courts of Justice in The Strand so it's probably a good idea to arrive 10 minutes or so beforehand if you want to be there at the start. The nearest tube is Temple. Here's a summary of what it's all about from one of our representatives: It is scheduled to be a two day hearing. We may not get a decision by close of play on Wednesday. The Judicial Review has been brought to court because, in our opinion, Greenwich and the developers failed to conduct a cumulative assessment of the emissions associated with the entire site. We have also been allowed to submit new evidence. Enderby's Wharf will be one of four new pollution sources, all of which are covered by a 1km circle. The developers, in our opinion, have failed to consider the emissions from a cruise ship. Other considerations also include: The Low Carbon Energy Centre (the tall metal lattice structure rising next to the A102), which will soon be providing hot water to 15000 homes to be built by developer Knight Dragon. See: http://www.greenpen.london/blog/district-energy-centre Greenwich Power station is also beginning a refurbishment to provide electrical power to the Underground network via six new gas engines. Currently it is only an emergency power supply source should the National Grid suffer supply problems. Lastly there is the proposed new Silvertown Tunnel, which will bring an even greater number of cars wishing to cross the river. Currently the road plans show the route will bring vehicles to the existing roundabout at the eastern end of the Lower Lea Crossing. There are no new roads planned to take the vehicles away on a free flowing road once having crossed the river. The traffic will still back up on the A102, back to the Woolwich flyover as it currently does daily and frequently at weekends now. Greenwich already has NO2 levels that exceed the EU limits. In theory none of these new sources of emissions should be given consent if air quality levels are to improve.
