Every year, tens of thousands of beagles are bred and sold from a single facility in New York, not for adoption, but for laboratories. Marshall BioResources reportedly raises around 20,000 dogs annually and sells them for $1,000 to $2,000 each, all destined for experiments that range from medical research to testing lipstick, shampoo, sunscreen, and household cleaners. Beagles are chosen because they are small, trusting, and easy to handle, the exact traits that make repeated procedures possible.

This isn't hypothetical. Earlier this year, advocates helped free more than 2,000 beagles from a similar breeding operation, Ridglan Farms in Wisconsin. That state shut the facility down and revoked its lead veterinarian's license. New York can do the same.

On September 12, thousands of New Yorkers are marching across the state, ending two weeks later at Marshall BioResources' own gates, to demand the New York State Legislature and Governor act now: pass legislation banning the breeding of dogs for experimental sale, and investigate Marshall BioResources' licensing the way Wisconsin investigated Ridglan.

Modern alternatives like AI modeling and lab-grown cell testing already exist and could replace much of this suffering, especially for consumer products that have nothing to do with saving lives.

Beagles are bred to trust people. That trust shouldn't be the reason they're chosen for pain.
