Hi everyone,
Firstly thank you to the 19 individuals who have made submissions to the Parliamentary Inquiry, sharing their stories and highlighting the importance of protecting our community from devastating floods.
Only 6 of the 19 submissions are related to Maribyrnong so we are greatly under-represented, despite having a large number of homes and businesses impacted.
It is important to make a submission, share your experience and for ease, I have created a page about Arundel to make it easier for everyone to reference and link to in their submission. https://maribyrnongfloods.com/arundel/
There isn’t something intricate you need to do to make a submission, simply share your experience, how you feel let down and reference Arundel as a mitigant which could prevent this heart break in the future.
Separate to the parliamentary inquiry, Melbourne Water has published submissions to their review. You can read them here: https://maribyrnongfloods.com/inquiry/
- Maribyrnong City Council submission: Submission 46
- Moonee Valley City Council submission: Submission 40
- Melbourne Water submission: Submission 53
- Rivervue Retirement Village submission: Submission 44
- VRC submission: Submission 43
I was keen to understand if any ministers had requested information from Melbourne Water in regards to the Arundel basin, to see if any are genuinely interested in finding out more about mitigation along the Maribyrnong. I submitted a request under the Freedom of Information act here: https://www.melbournewater.com.au/about/what-we-do/legislation/freedom-information unfortunately they didn’t find anything.
So the Parliamentary Inquiry is our only hope to bring awareness to the existence of a feasible solution to flooding, with hopes that the recommendation produced is to fund Arundel.
Please submit your story to the inquiry here by Monday, 8 May 2023: https://new.parliament.vic.gov.au/get-involved/inquiries/floodinquiry/submissions
