Stop Manila Zoo's Plan to Acquire a New Elephant After Mali's Death

Stop Manila Zoo's Plan to Acquire a New Elephant After Mali's Death
The Issue
I am deeply moved by the plight of animals in captivity, particularly elephants like Mali, who was known as the world’s loneliest elephant. Mali lived and died in Manila Zoo without ever experiencing the freedom that is every animal's birthright. No creature should have to endure such a life. Now, we hear that Manila Zoo plans to replace Mali with another elephant.
Elephants are highly intelligent creatures with complex social structures and emotional lives. They are not meant for confinement within zoos where they cannot express their natural behaviors or live in social groups as they would in the wild (source: World Animal Protection). In fact, studies show that elephants in zoos live significantly shorter lives than those living freely (source: Science Magazine).
We must ensure that no other elephant suffers like Mali did. We call on Manila Zoo to reconsider their decision and instead invest resources into conservation efforts which can protect these magnificent creatures in their natural habitats.
Please join us by signing this petition today. Help us stop the City of Manila and Manila Zoo to take another elephant from its natural habitat and put him/her in a pen to live alone to be a thing for public amusement. Help us stop the abuse and captivity before it even begins.
