Stop LINKT Toll Charges for Queenslanders Now

The issue

LINKT, a company now owned by a non-Australian entity, continues to impose toll charges on Queenslanders even though the current toll roads have long been paid for. Profits are generated at the expense of everyday working Australians, who are already contributing through taxes and other charges meant to cover the rationale for these tolls.

This petition is deeply personal and significant since tolls have transformed into an unnecessary expense imposed on Australians who are grappling with a cost of living crisis. Initially designed to support infrastructure development, tolls were justified. However, the benefits of having toll roads no longer outweigh the financial burden placed on the residents of Queensland. The essential promise—to utilise these payments for improved and new infrastructure—is rendered invalid now that the roads are considered constructed and operational.

As an example, Queenslanders continue to use the same infrastructure without noticeable improvements, yet they face escalating charges that contribute to the profits of a foreign corporation. The lack of transparency regarding the management and allocation of these funds only adds to the outrage. Given that citizens are financially obligated through various channels to support infrastructure, this continued tolling amounts to double-dipping.

The government should prioritise the wellbeing of its citizens and ensure the cost of living does not unnecessarily inflate due to longstanding fees that no longer serve their original purpose. It is paramount to immediately stop LINKT toll charges for Queenslanders, alleviate this financial burden, and allow the people of Queensland to benefit from the infrastructure their contributions have already funded.

Sign this petition to demand an end to LINKT toll charges in Queensland and support a fairer approach to road funding that places Australians first.
