Stop Life Without Parole Instead Reform Rehabilitation Programs

The Issue

The justice system throughout the world is failing its citizens..... one family at a time! Here's how my family is impacted. In 1986 our brother Glen L. Jones, made a bad decision..... one that cost him his freedom. He was a good kid because no one is perfect... no drugs or alcohol,  but most importantly he had no other prior involvement with the law. Nevertheless due to his decision, he is in prison... for the rest of his life.... no possibility of parole. Glen has petition the governor on 3 separate occasions for clemency and every time "Denied" was the Governor's response. This latest denial was February 2023 and it almost crushed our brother, believing that after 37 years and suffering through each day of dialysis treatment he thought his time would be recognized as time served.

Our brother has one son and through him a grandson and granddaughter. Glen has sought help from mental health to help him with the thoughts that plague his mind. Those of not being able to attend funerals of  our father, our grandmother and our mother. Glen has always been about family and we need his support as much as he needs ours. Our family suffers as well, being concerned about his safety and well-being. Glen was just attacked by his cellmate on 8/28/23 after returning from dialysis treatment, weak!

We received not one phone call from the prison facility to Glen's chosen power of attorney over his Healthcare (Dolores Jones). He was sent to the hospital and our family was informed by another inmates family member. We have contacted the Illinois Department of Corrections,  the chief of Staff with the Luetinent Governor's office about the lack of acknowledgement to our family's concerns in this area. But nothing has changed and our family believes that this attack was prompted from a place of retaliation from those in authority.

The cellmate was racist against African Americans yet they placed him in the cell with our brother.  He made statements to affirm his feelings being racist and our brother reported this to internal affairs and they did nothing and a few days later our brother was attacked.

As I mentioned in the beginning of this letter.... our Justice system is failing its system one family at a time. Our story is only one, but of the utmost importance to us. Our family is available to help in anyway to help make this a law. The fate of a person should not be totally in the hands of one person to be condemned to life. Any of us could fall into a similar circumstance,  put yourself in his shoes.

A 23 your old young man, didn't finish high school to go to work to help his family. His only memories he has made with his family is via  20 minute phone calls, pictures of his family growing up without him and every dime sent to him he sees as a act of love. Only time he gets to touch anyone is on a random visitation day. It's hard to maintain a feeling of love without being touched.

Just think about it put yourself in his shoes, everyday for 37 years someone controlling your every move and there is no possible life outside of those thoughts, every door has been closed!

The only program that is implemented is the  church services which gives him some relief and the act he provides in helping others while he serves time. This is the spiritual side of life that's being met. There's also a need on the natural side for a person to have balance in their life. This is where the life programs comes into play.

Rehabilitation programs are for the purpose of helping those incarcerated to re-enter society with a better mindset of becoming productive citizen.

What programs are in place for those who have been condemned to life without parole?

Our prayers are that one day God would reveal the truth about our brothers case and our brother cones home, but if its God's will not to, we pary that all Glen's natural needs be met. Therefore through his spiritual and his natural needs working together he is able to be free in his mind.

Thank you for your support!
