The Issue

Living on the road opposite the proposed site for a new Lidl and coffee shop on Skircoat Road, Halifax, I am devastated by the current traffic situation and the number of reckless drivers that make our streets unsafe. We face a daily battle with congestion, pollution, and the danger that increased traffic brings. Adding a new Lidl and coffee shop would only exacerbate these issues, escalating the risk to the community, particularly for the children attending the nearby schools, the elderly in care homes, and everyone frequenting nurseries in the vicinity.

Halifax already boasts a variety of independent coffee shops and an abundance of food shopping outlets. Introducing another supermarket and coffee franchise would not only threaten the charm and survival of our local businesses but also undermine our community's needs. The focus should be on enhancing community value and providing facilities that promote wellness and safety.

A swimming pool or a community center could greatly benefit Skircoat Road, offering a space for community gathering, fitness, and social activities. This is what we need more than ever—a hub that fosters connections rather than corporations.

The environmental and social impact of more traffic must be seriously considered. Increased pollution levels directly affect our health and quality of life. In a time where sustainability and community support should be prioritized, let's say no to corporate expansion and yes to independent and sustainable community growth.

Join me in opposing the development of a new Lidl and coffee shop on Skircoat Road. Sign the petition to ensure our voices are heard and to protect the welfare and safety of our neighborhood. Together, we can advocate for a greener, safer, and more connected community.
