Since my kids have attended the Humboldt city school district, they have been victim to being bullied. It started when my son was in kindergarten.

Zach was having a lot of trouble in school . I started noticing his behavior was different and he was blinking rapidly and having strange hand movements. He would walk in semi circles at the bus stop and twirl his hands. This is when it started happening.

One afternoon, he got off the bus and had black streaks on his khaki pants. I asked him where it came from and he stated to me that the bus was over crowded and they made him sit in the floor and because he was white , they made fun of him calling him names because of the streaks. I immediately called the school and the board after confronting the bus driver and this time, it was handled and that bus driver no longer drives for the school. Now onto the next story.

A few months later, we started going to Le Bonheur because the doctor was afraid something was going on neurologically. That is when my worse fear happened, the scans, the tests , the driving and waiting on tests. He was having grandma seizures along with being diagnosed with motor tic syndrome that eventually led to Tourette’s syndrome. Even though it was mild, it was extremely scary. We finally had our answer. Not to long after the diagnosis, I got another phone call from the school . Telling me that Zach wanted me to pick him up and he was in tears. I immediately left work and went up there. When I was told what happened, I acted like any mother would or should. Zach was in the lunch line and forgot his lunch number , so his tics started happening and the woman looked at I’m and asked “are you stupid? What’s wrong with you?” That was the last straw for me. I ran to the cafeteria to try and find her and ask her about it. She was terrified and told me she was joking and had no idea of his condition. I then was removed from the property and demanded that she no longer will have a job there. Now fast forward to 6th. New school.

For the most part, east end has been okay except the past 2 years. My daughter . Aubree has been victim to bullying because of her weight and the way she dressed and so much more. Nothing has been done or it’s always “we will look into it” . A teacher informed us that a sexual note was written about her and never told us until 2 months later. She has went into a depression stage and has wrote suicidal notes. At 9 years old!?! We have gotten her into therapy but this should still not be happening! Zach has had many issues this year, including assault involving another minor and could have been sexual assault but he was too scared to say when we went to file a police report. Mind you that it also happened to 4 other boy students. And now, the bullying has started back up again. The schools need to put a more strict policy into place and start listening and making changes! We need a NO BULLYING POLICY ASAP!!! There needs to be no more “I’m looking into “ or we will get to the bottom of this because , teachers and principals, I hate to break it ya , but the more you keep saying that, the more the suicidal rate is going to go up along with depression. DO something now!
