For many years dog walkers have been exercising their dogs in the enclosed area of Abbey Park, next to the astroturf pitches.

The gate has now been locked and there is a notice saying that the area is to be turned into a skate park.

This enclosed area is great for dogs and owners to meet up and enjoy the fresh air and socialise together, without the worry of their dogs running off.

This area supported many dog owners during the pandemic and now continues to prevent many people from being isolated.

We urge Leicester City Council to reconsider this action and either move the skate park elsewhere in Abbey Park (there is plenty of room) or provide an enclosed dog field elsewhere in the park for dogs and owners to enjoy together.

Don't take away our dogs' freedom.
