Stop Legal Discrimination Against the LGBTQIA+ Community
The Issue
This petition originates from a deeply personal place of grief, driven by an insurmountable loss. A close friend of mine, vibrant and loving, attempted to take their life on the night a hateful order, made by president Donald Trump, reduced all of humanity to merely two genders. They felt unseen and worthless. This tragic event serves as a chilling example of the damage instigated by systematic oppression and ignorance. No longer can we be spectators in our own country, which was founded on principals of refuge and liberty. The U.S, historically a sanctuary for those fleeing oppression, must live up to its reputation of being the land of free and the home of brave.
Currently, many marginalized individuals in the U.S., especially those of the LGBTQIA+ community, continue to suffer from a myriad of unjust laws and bills. For example, according to the Human Rights Campaign, in 2021 alone, over 250 anti-LGBTQ bills were introduced across various states (source: Human Rights Campaign). This durable pattern of systemic prejudice is insidious and contrary to the principles of human rights and equality we hold dear. Even worse, the people doing such are widely stating it's in the name of God, while simultaneously stating that God loves and forgives all.
Trump is passing many anti-transgender laws, claiming it's to protect women. Donald Trump has been found guilty of sexual assault, as you can see here, so you do have to wonder, is the purpose of these laws really for women's safety? Or is it simply another example of hateful people attempting to justify their actions?
We must be brave, stand in solidarity with the silenced, and actively work towards the dissolution of institutionalized hate. This petition calls for an urgent re-examination, amendment, and in some cases, abolition of laws and bills that discriminate against the LGBTQIA+ community. Stand beside us as we demand justice and equality for all citizens, regardless of their religion, beliefs, culture, gender, or sexual orientation.
Please, sign this petition now. Let's join forces to end legal discrimination and pave the way for a more inclusive, compassionate society.
