"One increase wasn’t to be celebrated: 3 horses died from injuries in races at Del Mar Racing , the most at the track’s summer meet since the California Horse Racing Board began posting fatality data in 2020."  https://www.dailynews.com/2026/09/07/medoro-saves-her-best-for-last-to-cap-del-mar-meet/

Three-year-old fillies Valentina Jan and Can You Dream died from musculoskeletal injuries racing on August 6 and July 26th, and Four-year-old colt Cornucopian died on July 26th from musculoskeletal injury racing on July 25th in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes. Cornucopian was the 85th racehorse known to die in trainer Bob Baffert's care since 2000, per CA Horse Racing Board records and media reports.

There was a Fourth racehorse death during the Eight-Week Del Mar Summer Meet: Three-year-old gelding Champs Ourae was reported dead from musculoskeletal injury in Training on September 3rd in Training at nearby San Luis Rey Training Center, which is an official auxiliary stable for Del Mar. Champs Ourae was raced for the first and last time at Del Mar on August 15th, finishing Seventh of 10 starters for an $80,000 purse (prize).

132 horses have now died at Del Mar Racetrack since 2013 per the CA Horse Racing Board. No legititmate sport would tolerate such deaths of its athletes, especially at a single venue during 12 weeks of competition each year.

Please keep Sharing this Petition to the California Legislature leaders to give California voters the chance to repeal the legalization of animal cruelty for horses through gambling -- we know it takes several Shares for some people to finally Sign. THANK YOU for your support!
