California Racehorse Deaths UP from 2023, NOT Declining

"The death of the Grade III stakes-winning 4-year-old colt Cornucopian after he was injured in the Bing Crosby made headlines, but it was only the first of two deaths at Del Mar Racing last weekend. The claiming-level 3-year-old filly Can You Dream fell with jockey Edgar Payeras after being pulled up in the eighth race Sunday.
"They were the 19th and 20th horses to die in 2026 at Santa Anita Park (11), Los Alamitos Race Course (seven) and Del Mar Racing (two), from all causes in racing and training, according to California Horse Racing Board records. That’s the most between Jan. 1 and July 26 since 2023 at the Southern California tracks, and two more than the average for the same stretch in 2021-2025." https://www.ocregister.com/2026/07/30/horse-racing-gold-phoenix-stakes-claim-to-place-in-del-mar-history/
