Stop LED Stadium Lights at Bouchard Family Park

Stop LED Stadium Lights at Bouchard Family Park
The Issue
We, the residents and supporters of our community, are asking QVRA and QVSD to pause the proposed stadium lighting project at Bouchard Family Park and instead commit to creating a thoughtful, community-driven master plan for the property.
Our community is known as a highly desirable residential area that values its parks, natural surroundings, peaceful atmosphere, and connection to nature. The baseball field is located within a uniquely sensitive setting surrounded by homes, woodlands, conservation areas, and protected green spaces connected to the Little Sewickley Creek Watershed and nearby Allegheny Land Trust properties. These natural areas are part of what makes this community special and why so many families choose to live here.
We strongly support opportunities for children to play sports and remain active in the community. Expanding recreational access for kids and preserving the environment should not be treated as competing priorities. We believe both goals can be achieved through thoughtful planning that respects the land, nearby residents, and the long-term future of the area.
The introduction of stadium-style lighting would permanently alter the rural and residential character of the neighborhood. Increased light pollution, noise, traffic, and nighttime activity would affect nearby homes, disrupt wildlife habitats, and diminish the peaceful environment that residents value. The proposal also raises concerns about the impact on the Little Sewickley Creek Watershed and the surrounding conservation lands that border the property on multiple sides.
Rather than moving forward with an ambitious project that could have lasting consequences, we ask QVRA and QVSD to take a step back and create a comprehensive master plan that reflects the values of the community. That plan should carefully consider recreation, environmental stewardship, conservation, safety, traffic, lighting, and the overall character of the neighborhood as interconnected issues rather than isolated decisions.
This petition is not about opposing youth sports. It is about protecting the qualities that make this community such a special place to live while ensuring that future improvements are responsible, sustainable, and compatible with the surrounding environment. We owe it to our children and future generations to preserve the natural beauty, wildlife, dark skies, and rural character of this area while still supporting opportunities for recreation and community connection.
We respectfully ask QVRA and QVSD to halt the stadium lighting proposal and work collaboratively with residents to develop a long-term vision for the property that balances recreation with conservation and reflects the values of the community as a whole.
Please sign this petition to help protect our community, our environment, and the future of this special place.
