Today the BBC came to film myself and two other West Sussex parents for a news piece about Selective Mutism support in our county.
We shared our children’s stories, the reality of being passed between services, and the devastating impact that lack of early intervention can have on education, anxiety and family life.
The piece will also include a contribution from SMiRA (Selective Mutism Information & Research Association), helping explain what Selective Mutism actually is and why specialist understanding matters so much.
BBC are also expected to include responses from WSCC and NHS Surrey & Sussex.
This all started with one petition, one exhausted parent, and a feeling that our children were invisible.
Now nearly 1,300 people have signed.
Over 70 families have joined our support hub.
Parents who thought they were completely alone are finally finding each other.
Whatever happens next, I am incredibly proud of every family who has shared their story, spoken up, signed the petition, or supported another parent through this.
We are not asking for miracles.
We are asking for understanding, early intervention, trained schools, and a clear pathway so children with Selective Mutism are not left behind.
Thank you for standing with us ❤️
Thank you for being their voice 💛
