Stop LCC from closing MelloMello

Stop Liverpool Council From Closing MelloMello

We, the undersigned, firmly believe that Liverpool City Council is wrong to force MelloMello Community Interest Company into administration and closure by stripping the not-for-profit social enterprise of 80% business rates relief and demanding £30,000.00 in business rates per year. We also believe that Liverpool City Council's justification of MelloMello “not being aligned to the current high priorities of the City Council” is unacceptable and paltry.

We urge Liverpool City Council to acknowledge that this small, independent, creative business designed to foster grassroots artistic endeavours needs to be protected and not priced out and that MelloMello CIC's discretionary rates relief of 80% should be reinstated immediately.

We believe that the existence of MelloMello CIC (a not-for-profit, social enterprise) is of huge benefit to Liverpool's artistic, musical, cultural, educational, health & well being and social development at a grassroots level and that to deny rates relief is for Liverpool City Council to send a message of continued cultural indifference and displays a blatant lack of desire to support the city's grassroots artists, musicians and creative businesses.

MelloMello has never received funding, grants, sponsorship or investment. The success of MelloMello is that it has grown out of, quite literally, nothing into one of the City's favourite bars/restaurants/venues.
