Stop Killing California's Wolves

The Issue

CALIFORNIA JUST KILLED FOUR ENDANGERED WOLVES.

This year California Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) killed four wolves from the Beyem Seyo pack, one of the state’s newest, naturally returning families. These wolves were devoted parents raising pups. CDFW has failed to locate the three surviving pups, who will almost certainly die without their parents to raise them. In addition, CDFW mistakenly killed a Beyem Seyo juvenile during its lethal operation.

Additionally, people assume wolves are bankrupting ranchers but the reality is that CDFW has paid $1.7 million in California taxpayer dollars for rancher livestock reimbursements and loss.

The real problem is that the state stopped funding non-lethal tools. Without deterrents, conflicts rise, and that failure is what led to four endangered wolves being killed. Compensation without prevention isn’t coexistence.

These are the same patterns we’ve seen throughout America: defund prevention, allow conflict, blame wolves, then kill them.

California finally has wolves again and instead of protecting them, the state is killing them. This bloody legacy cannot continue, not in a state that claims to lead on biodiversity.

Women for Wolves is speaking out at California Fish & Wildlife meetings, mobilizing regional communities, partnering with ranchers and tribal nations, demanding the return of coexistence funding, and petitioning the state to stop destroying wolf families for good. We will not stop fighting for every wolf and every pack. Women for Wolves has rescued over 300 wolf-dogs and other animals from abuse, neglect, and abandonment, advocated on over 20 bills, & reached over 8 million people in conservation awareness.

Sign the petition to tell California leaders to stop killing endangered wolves and restore true coexistence before more are killed.
