Stop KCS from Forcing A/B Schedule in Schools

The Issue

Knox County Schools will be forcing an A/B schedule in all high schools going into the 2025-26 school year. This will be incredibly detrimental to student performance- In fact, in the 2024-25 freshman year, the A/B schedule was tested and resulted in an average GPA drop of nearly a full point. It's harder for teachers too- It's hard enough for students to come back to school Monday and not have done 4 of their classes in 4 days, and last week only twice - Now imagine the teachers watching half their class fail.

Last year, a vote was held in KCS, and the vast majority of teachers said A/B was damaging. The county went forwards with it anyways.

It also eliminates graduating early- As the classes are all full-year, (meaning students will need to remember material learned 10 months ago for their finals), you can't possibly graduate a semester early as you'd get no credit for your senior year classes.

We, the undersigned, hereby respectfully plead to the Knox County School System to not institute an A/B schedule. We suggest that, as has been proven by the Freshman Academy, and as most Staffulty have said, it would be far better for grades and in the genuine interest of all KCS students and their educations if the current schedule was maintained.

Knox County students need your signature. Our education will suffer greatly - If you're a student, a parent, a teacher, or just someone who cares, we kindly ask you to share this with everyone you know, and thank you in advance. If things do not change before the next school year, the damage will be irreversible. Thank you.
