Kauai is the ONLY home in the world for 2 critically endangered species
Koloa Blind Cave Spider and Kauai Blind Cave Amphipod
These species are only found on a small part of the island and the county is allowing a developer to build 282 condos units DIRECTLY on critical habitat
Poipu, Koloa, has been federally designated as Critical Habitat by the US Dept of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service.
The 25-acre property is part of the last ecosystem in the world where two endangered species can survive - the Kauai Cave Wolf Spider (Adelocosa anops) and the Kauai Cave Amphipod (Spelaeorchestia koloana).
Additionally, the land contains burials and iwi and is noted as a sacred Native Hawaiian site.
This land was purchased in June by a mainland developer who has since been advertising a 282 unit tourist condo project that he is pushing to build.
