It is fantastic to have more than 2,500 residents that have signed this petition – we need a little more so please keep sharing!

We also need EVERYONE to please write a letter (it can be brief) saying you do NOT support this development. Thoughtful arguments are provided below to help you.

The emails should be sent to:

The Town Planner lynn.brooksavni@newcanaanct.gov

Board of Selectmen BoSDistribution@newcanaanct.gov

Town Council TCDistribution@newcanaanct.gov

Board of Finance BoFDistribution@newcanaanct.gov.

-If local zoning law is broken here it sets a terrible precedent. What will keep other developers from overrunning our town with similar projects?

-We must fight to protect our town and the legal rights of our homeowners. Our planning and zoning laws are part of what drives the value of our properties and is an implicit contract between homeowners and the Town.

-Affordable housing laws don’t give predatory builders the right to irresponsibly build.

-Weed and Elm is already a heavily congested traffic area that has a large amount of pedestrian traffic. This corner currently struggles with safety challenges and accommodating hundreds of additional residents and cars will produce safety hazards and traffic issues.

-A 4/5 story building with 185 parking spaces in a residential area will produce an incredible amount of noise and light pollution that will affect neighbors and a large area of town.

-The height and breadth of the proposed building is way larger than the scope or size of any of its neighbors, and higher than most buildings in the commercial Town center.

-The health and safety concerns are significant. Town water, sewer, schools, fire, EMS should be thoughtfully researched and considered before buildings of this size can be built.

-Environmental impact of the building project is a concern.

THANK YOU!!
