Stop Kansas City’s Short Term Rental Ban

Stop Kansas City’s Short Term Rental Ban
The Issue
Kansas City just banned over 1600 airbnbs. This will cost over 8000 jobs for regular everyday Kansas Citians. This will also hurt homeowners who use their homes as short term rentals. Short term rentals make up less than 1% of total housing in Kansas City. The short term rental industry hosts many local families who are going through hardships like house fires or water damage and many visitors coming for surgery or to work. Kansas City banned all non owner occupied short term rentals in residential zones. They allowed any that were already permitted to continue to operate but that’s only about 200 or so. The reason most can’t get permitted is because they require neighbors signatures and many neighbors won’t sign, especially if you’re a minority. The city council themselves even told us the requirement to have to get neighbors signatures goes against Missouri State law. Our city council does not care about the impact this will have on thousands of our neighbors and visitors. One short term rental takes no less than 5 people to operate and maintain. Lawn care, Snow removal, Cleaning, Managing, Maintenance and so on. 1600x5 is over 8,000 people who will be put out of work. Tell Kansas City that these are not their homes to dictate what we do with them. Help us fight for our property rights.
