A group of concerned parents who have children currently being treated for cancer at the pediatric Oncology unit at Kaiser Woodland Hills Medical Center will hold a news conference on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Parents will also be holding an informational protest. We will pass out flyers starting at 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. to other parents who may not be aware of Kaiser's plans to close this crucial unit that provides care to the most vulnerable -- children with cancer living in the San Fernando valley and surrounding areas. We are holding this news conference because our kids are suffering with this monster, Cancer. Now our children and we, as their parents and caregivers, will be suffering and seriously impacted with Kaiser's decision to close this life saving unit. This callous action will remove our children from the care of their doctor who is known for compassionate care and she is most familiar with our children's cases and health history. We are also concerned that Kaiser has not properly informed us and now health enrollment periods have ended for many plans and the option to change to another health care provider that is close to our homes is no longer available to us. It concerns us that Kaiser has deliberately kept us, those most vulnerable and effected in the dark. To inquiring media that we have contacted, they have sent a carefully worded ambiguous news release with claims that we are reacting to rumors, adding insult to injury. However, there have been “transitional meetings” scheduled between personnel from Kaiser Sunset in Los Angeles and Kaiser's Woodland Hills pediatric oncology staff. The Woodland Hills pediatric Oncology unit is a reasonable distance from our homes and can respond to us quickly. The prospect of traveling longer distances into the Los Angeles Kaiser Sunset facility, can potentially cause greater harm to our children, putting them at risk, especially when they are having fevers and health episodes, getting immediate care is vital. Kaiser, please don't play with our children's precious lives, please don't cause our family's more stress. This disease is devastating enough, we need this facility -- Reconsider!
