Kāinga Ora Correspondence - Update for Bolton Street / Marlowe Road 29/09
Kia ora whānau, please find attached email correspondence update between Benji on behalf of the community and Kāinga Ora's Regional Director - Taina Jones.
Some key things to consider from the correspondence attached :
- Kāinga Ora does not want this to go to public notification with community input - “we have decided to withdraw the application to take a closer look at the design and look for any changes that could ensure it fits within the ‘less than minor effects’ parameters of the Resource Management Act.”
- It is a very unfair representation of the community to say that in our endeavours to keep pensioner housing within part of the redevelopment we want "the exclusion of children and young people from the site". In the second letter to the community dated 23/01/23, it discussed 'Our tenants come from all walks of life' - this is merely all the community is asking for - a redevelopment of warm, dry homes that represents all walks of life - that INCLUDES PENSIONER HOUSING. It is not the community excluding a group from this redevelopment it is Kainga Ora as they continue to ignore Mr Thompson's generous gifting and the terms in which it was done.
- Why haven’t design changes and why already been shared with the community given it is a month and a half since the decision was made to withdraw the application - "you can expect an update that goes into detail about what was redesigned, and why, as well as what design options were considered but not carried out."
- A question to ponder - will the community will only be updated in regards to the new resource consent when it has been finished and submitted? There is a lot to work through before we update the community again, so the exact timeframe remains uncertain for now.
Feedback - Continue to contribute feedback to KO by emailing aucklandnorthwestcepteam@kaingaora.govt.nz to ensure that pensioner housing remains in the Bay.
OIA - The outstanding OIA's for internal KO correspondance have been extended until 16/10.
Lawyers - The lawyers continue to work behind the scenes! When we have the legal opinion it will be shared with the community and we will seek a meeting with Kāinga Ora to discuss. Should a positive result not be forthcoming for the community we will then seek further financial fundraising to push for change to the redevelopment to ensure our pensioners stay in our community.
