STOP INVOLUNTARY FORCEFUL HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS OF PATIENTS IN REHAB CENTRES
The Issue
- This petition is about You & I...All Kenyans & Unborn Generations whose Rights to Dignity must be protected at all costs.
It seeks to expose the rot & abuses that go unreported & uninvestigated in many mental health/rehab centres across our country & the need to uphold our fundamental Patients' Rights in our healthcare sector.
Today Mental Health is recognised as a national issue deserving utmost attention in all strata of our society.
The Mental Health Amendment Act Cap 248 was signed into law on 21st June 2022 by the former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Kenya Mental Health Policy 2015-2030 provides for a framework on interventions for securing mental health systems reforms in Kenya giving a roadmap for securing reforms and building strong mental health systems with ultimate goal of attaining the highest standard of mental health in Kenya.
This is to confirm that medical practices & gross violations of patients’ rights are prevalent in some rehab centres in the country.
Whereby controlling family members violate the human rights of their loved ones & collude with staff of the rehab centres to ensure brutal abductions, involuntary injections with sedatives & forced hospital admissions without their Informed Consent.
On July 16th 2025..Ms. Susan Kamengere’s was murdered at Chiromo Hospital where she was forcibly admitted after being abducted at home by 4 people.. sent by her abusive husband Mr.Alois Ngure.

Personally, I experienced a violent & brutal abduction & forced involuntary admission in the hands of the staff of Mediva Wellness Centre which was at the discretion of my parent i.e. my biological mother who organized & executed the uncouth barbaric heinous act.
Some parents who are unwilling to openly address conflict, psychological, verbal & emotional abuses that go on behind closed doors in their homes through dialogue instead resort to punishing their adult children by secretly planning for them to ambushed & thrown into rehabs to intimidate, subdue, control & silence them.

Unfortunately, our African culture & religious inclinations give our parents & guardians way too much leeway in the exercise of their parental authority which is often abused
Parental abuse goes unreported for fear of social stigma & reprisals from other family members.
Matters of gross violation of human rights are often trivialised within family circles & thrown under the carpet as the victims continue to suffer silently.
The Principles of Informed Consent & Autonomy were flouted by my mother, her 2 sisters one of them who is the CEO/Director of Mediva Wellness Centre & my own sister who is an NHIF officer.
The 4 of them ganged up to secretly plan how to have me wrongly labeled, ambushed in such a humiliating manner & forcibly admitted to the rehab to advance my mother's need to control me for her own sadistic pleasure, selfish interests.
To manipulate, dominate & punish me because I had begun speaking up about the emotional, psychological & verbal abuses going on in our home.
On what begun as a normal day on 30th October 2022, I was suddenly ambushed unawares early in the morning right in the privacy of my bedroom by 3 Male Strangers who are staff of Mediva Wellness Centre.
- I was violently manhandled, they attempted to forcefully inject me with some sedative as I frantically fought back in vain.
- The syringe one of the 3 men who were trying to inject me during the ambush, could have easily broken in my arm or another body part as I was in such an agitated frantic state of fight or flight mechanism imagining the worst as a woman.
I could have been maimed or paralysed for life because of nerve damage if the 3 men had succeeded in forcibly injecting me during the struggle in my bedroom because I was not prepared or willing to co-operate with them neither did I understand what their mission was.
All the ongoing personal life plans I had then as an adult, were rudely curtailed & jettisoned at the behest of my sadistic female family members who secretly planned the whole ordeal which was an invasion of my privacy.
It was really all about psychological torture rather than mental wellness because not only was I physically & psychologically traumatized as a human being, but I was also denied my Right to Autonomy & Freedom of Movement as an adult.
- At first, I had no idea what was going on just like the late Susan Kamengere who was caught offguard in her home! She assumed it was KPLC staff who had come.
- For me as a woman, seeing 3 male strangers I thought we had been ambushed by thieves in our home.
- The 3 men did not even introduce themselves or what their sordid mission was.
- I only realised my mother was the one who commandeered them, when she actually joined them & begun muzzling my mouth to silence me as I was screaming out loudly hoping to attract any neighbours attention to come to my rescue.
Subsequently, I was overpowered by the 3 men & my own mother, subdued, dragged out like a criminal into a waiting car & driven off at neck breaking speed to Mediva Wellness Centre in Thika still in my nightwear & slippers.
My knees were hurt as they got violently knocked on the walls of my bedroom door as I endeavoured to wrestle free of the grip of the 3 men as they roughed me up & dragged out.
Upon arrival at Mediva Wellness Centre, the 3 men forced me into a room where they all entered in full view of onlookers in the institution.
I was forced to strip & get injected without any prior counseling from a medical professional. I had to shout loudly to demand that 2 of the men who ambushed me leave the room for my privacy & allow me privacy with the male nurse who was to inject me.
After being forcibly injected I was directed to a room to sleep in, yet it was early morning hours before 10a.m. & I had just woken up a few hours earlier.
Ironically, suddenly the same male staff plus other admin & medical staff staff at the institution were willing to speak with me minutes after.
They all begun gently coercing & manipulating me to co-operate with their agenda since now I was locked up & I was literally at their mercy.
What followed was 6 weeks involuntary admission & solitary confinement in a room at the institution against my wishes without any access to the outside world via phone or access to internet except once in while when I requested to be allowed to speak to a friend or family member.
I got into a Stockholm Syndrome whereby captives unwillingly co-operate with their captors just to make their life bearable or get out of captivity sooner.
- Overnight my life had been hijacked & taken over. Any personal work/ business plans or appointments I had planned were abruptly ceased & canceled.
My abductors reverted to their normal duties within the rehab such as gardening, cooking, security as though they hadn't done anything wrong.
The 3 Men i.e. the watchman, gardener/groundsman who doubled up as a cook too sometimes & the male nurse who violently abducted me derived sadistic pleasure gloating over me throughout the time I was impounded at the institution knowing the indignity they inflicted on me as a woman during the brutal admission at home.
- They seemed so casual about it as though they are so used to doing the heinous act & were waiting for another sadistic assignment to pounce on another innocent victim in their home when the opportunity came around again to get another"patient".
- These men had no basic training in counseling or psychology so they were unperturbed & unapologetic about the psychological damage of their violent actions on the patients' psyche.
My own younger sister Ms.Angela Kamau was complicit in the whole sordid plan as she overstepped her mandate & abused her authority as an employee of NHIF by secretly allowing access my NHIF card details on the NHIF system for the staff of Mediva Wellness Centre to charge the card without my consent.
She gave the institution permission to charge it to cover bed charges without my consent.
- My NHIF card is always in my possession so I should have been consulted before I was admitted.
It was really all about inflicting utmost psychological torture rather than mental wellness as I was denied my Right to Autonomy & Freedom of Movement as an adult.
- I found out that other patients were also victims of this kind of humiliating violent abductions & admissions.
During my stay there, I observed in horror, as 2 other young men arrived at the institution looking so dehumanised as they were handcuffed like criminals being frogmarched by male staff of the rehab accompanied by their parents.
A most humiliating experience which we later discussed as patients commiserating about our individual experiences during our involuntary stay.
What makes it even more deceptive is the use of religious undertones to hoodwink/brainwash patients into compliance with the program & to almost sanitise the evil that was meted on us.
- Weekly Prayer services were conducted with a visiting pastor presiding over supposedly for spiritual nourishment yet my rights had been grossly violated in my admission & I had no business being there in the first place.
- This fostered my resentment further because as an adult I choose whether or not to attend church worship services but we were coerced/forced so it was like being treated like a child in the rehab.
I was forced into a "mental wellness" program I didn't understand or care to go through neither did I choose it for myself. My time during the 6 wks was taken from me forcefully & all my life plans rudely stopped.
At no time was I given the option to decide when to leave. I was held hostage in suspense. Such a shambolic affair.
There is a lot of psychological abuse & mind control going on in rehabilitation centres camouflaged as "mental wellness programs".
The Principle of Informed Consent in Medical Ethics refers to the idea that a person must be fully informed about and understand the potential benefits and risks of their choice of medical treatment.
The Principle of Autonomy recognizes the Fundamental Rights of Individuals to Self-Determination. This is rooted in society's respect for individuals' ability to make informed decisions about personal matters.
Doctor's take the Hippocratic Oath that doctors when they are becoming doctors & swear to practice with conscience, dignity, to uphold the 4 Basic Principles of medical ethics.
Principles of Beneficence, Non-Maleficence, Justice & Respect for the patients' autonomy with the 2 rules of confidentiality & veracity.
- Non Maleficence is the obligation of a physician not to harm the patient.
This simply stated principle supports several moral rules − do not kill, do not cause pain or suffering, do not incapacitate , do not cause offense, and do not deprive others of the goods of life.
Human Touch is very Important since it begins at Infancy for human beings.
The 3 male staff of Mediva Wellness Centre who roughed me up were not close relatives or friends so it was not consensual touch but purely Gender Based Violence.
GBV ..Gender based violence is one of the most socially tolerated forms of human rights violations. It is rooted in discriminatory cultural norms that make women more susceptible to the vice.
The term violence against women means any act of Gender Based Violence that results in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering to women including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty whether occuring in private or public life.
From my experience, I concluded that in Kenya there is absolutely no respect for women's bodies & men can easily manhandle women without facing the law.
This medical malpractice has adversely affected my mental health as a female adult as I now have PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as often I have negative memories & flashbacks of the harrowing incident.
The psychological trauma from being helpless when I was physically roughed up, subdued by the 3 male staff of the rehab & how I struggled to fight them off in vain has affected the way I relate with Men.
I have a heightened distrust & suspicion around men fearing if a man could suddenly turn violent against me even without the slightest provocation.
It made me search for a place to learn Self Defense Karate or Tae Kwon Do Classes to be armed to defend myself in future from any sudden attacks from men.
This sordid act organised by my mother would not have happened when my late father Mr.Harry Kamau who rested 4yrs ago was alive today. He was very protective as a father.
Sadly, some rehab centres such as Mediva Wellness Centre are so desperate for business & will go to such great lengths to commit such heinous barbaric acts on innocent Kenyans just to get patients admitted in their facility.
"Patients" are secretly hunted in homes like wild birds/animals & impounded for prolonged periods of time against their wishes.
They are psychologically tortured as they feel like incarcerated prisoners in a mental health institution forced into programs they never opted or chose to take.
Other cases of Forced Involuntary hospitalisations by rehab centres such Chiromo Hospital Group have been reported in media in the past too.
On Wednesday 16th July 2025...Kenyans woke up to the shocking & devastating news of a lady namely Ms.Susan .N. Kamengere..the Founder of Toto Touch who died at Chiromo Hospital after being brutally abducted at home by 4 people, forcibly injected, involuntarily admitted without her informed consent..at the behest of her husband whom she referred to as Alois & her Psychiatrist..Dr.Onyancha who was colluded with him.
Susan who was distressed & traumatised wrote about the harrowing ordeal on her Facebook page hours before she died. The post was pulled down as cover up but not before her friends had shared it online.
- She also recorded her harrowing ordeal before her phones were confiscated from her.
In her videos she could be heard complaining about the brutality & injustice she endured in the hands of the cold hearted medical personnel i.e the nurses at the Chiromo Hospital. She was injected forcibly & later killed by manual strangulation.

It is so unethical & abhorrent, that the doctors, nurses & hospitals we go to expecting compassion are so deceitful, cruel & heartless!
It has sparked a public outcry #JUSTICE 4 SUSAN Kamengere online! As Kenyans demand Straight Answers!
This clears shows that anyone who has money & malicious intent can just collude with psychiatrists to have one ambushed, sedated & even killed under the guise of being treated for depression.
Her death cannot be swept away under the carpet..She was a normal lady going about with her life who had parental obligations & business appointments the next day day. Now she is Dead!

Mr.Kasmuel McOure a Gen Z Social Justice Activist & Revolutionary who has been vocal about his mental health challenges on Engage Talk in the past spoke about how his friends tricked him into getting admitted into a rehab centre in 2023.
He said that he still resents the treachery his friends devised to get him into the rehab without his informed consent which sabotaged his business plans because he was impounded in the rehab for much longer than he expected.

The use of brute force & deception to get patients into rehabs is very unacceptable & inhumane.
Patients resent being duped because they instinctively know that their Rights to Autonomy & Free Will as adults were grossly violated.

Many conflicts in families can be easily solved through group family therapy or counseling but instead innocent Kenyans like myself are wrongly labeled as mental health patients & their lives are rudely disrupted when the same abusive controlling family members get them thrown into rehab centres.
Sadly the victim of abuse in the rehab goes back to the same family members who abused them further because they are in denial that they need help themselves.
Mental health institutions which are supposed to promote mental wellness are doing the opposite because such traumatic violent forceful admissions affect the patients' psyche very negatively for life.
- Why did the staff of Mediva have to use the most brute force to handle me & other patients I met in the institution?..ni kama "kupigwa ngeta" in slang terms i.e violent ambush by thugs.
I was ambushed like the way many Gen-Z protestors were abducted in June 2024 & tortured psychologically or the innocent clueless Chibok schoolgirls who were violently abducted by Boko Haram in Nigeria.. whisked away to a secret location for their abductors sadistic pleasure, to be abused, brainwashed & radicalised against their wishes.

It is because they know its purely an abuse of patients' human rights!

The facebook post copied below by a Lawyer Ms.Amazon Chepkirui paints a chilling picture of how Psychiatry is weaponised by sadistic family members to silence specific family members who are deemed too outspoken or independent in wealthy families by labeling them as mentally insane & having them thrown in to a high end rehab where they are heavily sedated to keep them subdued psychologically & dependent.
I have personally visited & made official complaints at the Ministry of Health, KMPDU, Kenya Mental Health Board, NHIF & several NGO organisations in the Mental Health Sector & others that defend Human Rights in the country..namely Kenya National Commission of Human Rights, Basic Needs, IMLU & Equality NOW.
I called & sent emails to the Kenya Psychologists Association & Kenya Psychiatrists Association too.
I did not get any official responses & Nothing was done until after Susan Kamengere's death brought to light these heinous crimes.
Often I was just given a cursory answer like "Pole!..sorry about what you went through"
- At the Ministry of Health they just stamped the letter & I never heard from them.
- At the Mental Health Board I met the CEO & officials who claimed that they are still not fully operational even after being incorporated 2yrs ago. This was to absolve themselves of any responsiblity.
The ladies in the office trivialised my complaint & casually informed me that they are aware that such acts of brutality are going on in rehabs & they can do nothing about it since they are not fully operational.
I was given the Mental Health Report by the Taskforce on Mental Health in Kenya which was commissioned by the former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
It is just a glossy book full of research data, recommendations & faces of high ranking officials in various positions across the medical, mental health & NGO sectors who were members of the members on the Taskforce on mental health.
One of the recommendations on page 16 was that Mental Health should be declared an "Emergency of Epidemic proportions."
It was printed with taxpayers' money, & is distributed freely to the public but the negative lived experiences & violations of human rights of mental health patients in rehabs are not captured therein.
So the Kenya Mental Health Board officials are just collecting salaries under the banner of mental health, convening & attending seminars in high end hotels, other conference venues & talking about policy formulation but having no impact on enforcement of laws that protect mental health patient rights.
Kenya Medical Practioners & Denstists Council (KMPDC) responded to an official complaint I made on email copied to several Kenyans & stakeholders in May 2024, promising to address the matter but they never did. It was just a mere formality with no real intention to act on the issue.
In September 2025...almost 2yrs later they wrote a Disciplinary Letter to Mediva to respond to my complaint within 2 weeks.
I also sent emails to other women in leadership, i.e. The Lady Justice Martha Koome office, Hon.Rachel Shebesh & Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the former Vice President's wife, who gave a keynote address in a Mental Health Seminar at the Ole Sereni Hotel Friday 22nd Sept. 2023 dubbed "Let Mental Health be a Human Rights Issue" as the article below elucidates.

Up to date I have never got any official responses from their offices.
So the presence of Women in our country's top leadership makes No Difference.
On November 6th, 2023 I had an interview with Thomas Bosire, a journalist for the Healthy Nation magazine in the Nation Newspapers from Nation Media Group at Nation Centre.
He deceitfully took me round in circles lying that an article would be written on the newspaper to expose this injustice..up to date, no news article has been published. So there is a deliberate cover-up..a Conspiracy of Silence.
- Why did the Nation Media Group waste my time interviewing & recording me, yet other news about human rights violations, abuse & crimes such as murders, thefts, gender based violence are reported real time within hours!?
- How come a random man holding a paper bag containing githeri in a queue waiting to vote during 2017 Elections became national news yet human, patients rights violations & abuse in rehabs is not quickly reported?
One is left to wonder whether the journalists simply trivialise the matter as a non-issue or they want to be bribed or coerced to write to expose these human rights violations or they have been bribed into silence about these injustices going on in the mental health sector.
Yet they advertise Mental Wellness Seminars convened by psychiatrists & mental health institutions.
Bad News sells in media. So the Nation Newspaper made millions much more from reporting on Susan Kamengere's death.. than when she was alive.
Perhaps she would be alive today if an article had been written in 2023 after I was interviewed. Kenyans would have be more enlightened & vigilant about such crimes.
That is why Social Media channels like Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube & Independent Media houses have in effect replaced mainstream media today as reliable sources of information.
Sadly, Corruption is so pervasive & endemic in Kenya that such cases go unreported as most patients cannot afford to seek legal redress in the corridors of Justice.
Even if they do try, nothing is done because perhaps bribery by the institutions may buy the silence of those who should defend the patients.
- There are Big Players in the mental health sector who will go to great lengths to cover up the rot in rehabs.
As a Kenyan woman I feel very betrayed & violated by the broken systems in our country & the abuse in my family.
- None of my siblings or relatives in the extended family spoke up in my defence either, when I complained.
- In their silence my 3 siblings were secretly in agreement..gloating too..happy that their older sister was dehumanised at the rehab..yet they would hate the same thing done to them.
- There is also a fear of offending or questioning parents due to our cultural norms & religious beliefs that imply parents are not to be questioned.
- Yet No other relative/s who have ever sought mental health services in the same or other rehabs has ever been subjected to such degrading inhumane treatment like I was. So I was just being victimised & targeted maliciously by my mother, my sister & aunties who sought to dominate & control me.
- Most family & close family friends aid & abet the crime that was committed through their silence because they take sides with abusers i.e abusive parents leaving the victim to suffer in silence.
- Ironically, if I died, suddenly the same family members & friends would hypocritically show up, quickly sign my condolence book & give glowing tributes, donning t-shirts emblazoned with my face to give me dignified send-off yet they turned a blind eye to the abuse I endured when I was alive!
What was done to me was not just a minor infraction but a major affront to my dignity as a human being & a woman.
It was a purely malicious premeditated act of Aggression, Subjugation & Dominance.
It was a classic case of malicious Bullying or Stilleto Syndrome by the women in my family who wanted to send a chilling message to me & my generation that they call the shots, can shut down & sabotage my life at a whim for as long as they wish by throwing me into a rehab secretly.
Injustice is the order of the day because the players in the mental health industry turn a blind eye & go on with life as if nothing happened.
- NOBODY CARES until you are DEAD..like the late Susan Kamengere!
Notably the subjects of Mental Health Patient's Rights & Lived Experiences of victims of abuse in rehabs are always conspicuously missing in Mental Health Seminars/Conferences because Psychiatrists, the Big Pharmaceuticals & Rehab Owners are protecting their selfish business interests!
It is not in their best interests for Kenyans to know the medical malpractices going on in rehabs..because they risk losing income.
- Psychiatrists & rehab owners do not want people being empowered to assert their Patient's Rights because they won't exploit their ignorance any more!
Most probably ever since I left Mediva several other innocent victims have been wrongly labeled, misdiagnosed, forcefully thrown into rehabs where they are being medicated involuntarily just like there are many innocent Kenyans languishing in prisons across the country having been wrongly framed for crimes they never committed!
Evil thrives in Darkness & when Good people do Nothing about it.
- Many innocent victims are unaware of their patients' rights or cannot vocalise their experiences & they return to the same abusers only to live in more mental torture reliving the experiences fearing being victimised again. Resorting to remain silent about the shameful experience.
My family had hoped that this sordid ordeal would remain as a "dirty family secret" because Mediva Wellness Centre is family-owned.
- I have chosen to speak up in the open because I am not an animal to be hunted, caged, tamed & controlled medically.
- If I was medicated continously for the 6weeks I would not be able to communicate as my brain would have been subdued & regressed for a long time.
Am not even a substance abuser, alcoholic or drug addict so I was not inebriated or high on drugs to warrant such extreme cruelty, barbarism during my forced involuntary hospitalisation.
- I want to expose this evil to help other hapless innocent victims in our country.
For the sole reason that some patients lives can be destroyed in rehabs from the side effects of long term use of sedatives, anti-depressants & the psychological trauma of forced hospitalisation.
If I remain silent it will set a very bad precedent for my family members who turned a blind eye to this blatant injustice to abuse their parental authority & feel emboldened to do it to me again at a whim.
They will assume they can wrongly label & commandeer men to ambush me or any other relative any time anywhere, throw them into Mediva & get away with it again..
It will perpetuate a misuse of mental health Institutions by abusive family members, guardians & parents to mistreat & psychologically manipulate & control their children.
Evidently there is a lot empty rhetoric & deceit regarding Mental Health in Kenya & what goes on behind closed doors in rehabs.
Mental Health is just a trending hot topic that gains national attention when several high profile Mental Health Events are convened annually with buzzwords such "decriminalization & destigmatization of mental health patients being bandied around lightly!
"Kwa ground vitu iko very different" as they say in slang i.e on the ground, mental health patients' rights are being grossly violated in rehab centres whose licenses are never revoked. The psychiatrists are allowed to go scotfree too when they violate patients' rights.
Mental Health Patients' Rights are deliberately left out in seminars & conference to filter out negative lived experiences of patients/victims.
World Health Organisation (WHO) has a Quality Rights Training which clearly stipulates the Rights of Mental Health Patients.
Majority of the medical staff in rehab centres like Mediva Wellness Centre have not even taken the WHO Quality Rights training so they violate mental health patients' rights without remorse oblivious of the consequences or ramifications of violating patients' human rights.
Psychiatrists can be compromised to silently go along with the vice.
Dr.Mbae Kendi who is the psychiatrist at Mediva Wellness Centre took a Hippocratic Oath to protect patients' rights but she never spoke up about the brutality meted on patients during admission.
- She coerced me into taking medication before I was discharged yet I had no business being there in the first place!
- I had no option but to accept it unwillingly since I wanted to get out sooner, go back to my rebuilding my life & recover the lost time.
Pushing medicine up patients' bodies is just part of the business model for rehabs. So as long as she just got paid as a psychiatrist she didn't care at all how patients got there.
I could not get in a word edgewise i.e. reason out with Dr.Kendi. She just pushed the narrative that I was sick & I must be medicated supposedly to balance my brain chemicals.
Yet no blood tests were ever done to show what levels of chemicals such as serotonin in my brain were unbalanced. It's such a medical hoax used to deceive patients into taking antidepressant medicines & sedatives!
My feelings of frustration with the way I was handled were constantly ignored & invalidated.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic the whole world was caught off-guard. Massive job losses & lockdowns led to depression across populations across the world.
Yet even then, we did not see psychiatrists ambushing innocent people on the streets or in their homes to inject them forcibly to balance brain chemical just because they were "depressed" during COVID-19.

After all Dr.Mbae Kendi is on the payroll in Mediva Wellness Centre, she was being paid to advance the interests of my mother & her 2 sisters, so I had no voice!
- She just labeled me, scribbled some notes & moved on to consult in other medical facilities or her own clinic to collect more doctor's fees. It's just about making money.
For some owners of rehabs, it's just another lucrative use for real estate/ property where they sell bed space, food & dispense medicine even to innocent people whose rights to freedom of movement, informed consent & autonomy are grossly violated. They should not be in there at all.
My mother,her 2 siblings & my own sister who were my abusers including the all staff of Mediva Wellness Centre would not wish & have never been subjected to the same humiliating ordeal they subjected me & other patients to as human beings.
Abusers are selfish narcissistic individuals who live in denial that they also need to be treated for a mental health problem.
As a woman, I should only fear being attacked by strangers outside our home not within our home where family members I trust live with me.
For fellow women who are mothers to plan such a heinous degrading act on me depicts just how entitled, controlling, heartless, cold-hearted & conniving mothers whom we trust & expect to be protective can be.
My mother & her siblings acted as though they owned me as a communal property they could do with as they wish disregarding my rights as an adult.
No normal mother in her right mind would even allow random strangers to manhandle her child or adolescent daughter so it was abhorrent for me to be subjected to such indignity as an adult.
Ironically, these same parents have the audacity to expect adult children they have psychologically abused to be there for them & take care of them later in their advanced old age.
It would be scorned if I got 3 strange men to violently ambush my mother unawares in her bedroom in her nightwear, drag her out indecently & throw her into hospital under the guise of caring for her in old age, but she expects to get away with committing such a sordid act of aggression on me.
There is a lousy retrogressive mentality of feeling justified to mete out harsh brutality & verbal abuse on their children even when they are adults ingrained in our parents that fuels the kind of abuse I was subjected to.
When they don't want to reason out or listen to adult children they resort to such acts of violence, labeling & throwing a person into a rehab to control & punish them.
My efforts to seek redress & straight answers from the directors & management of Mediva Wellness Centre were officially rebuffed & I was ignored as though I was just a mere statistic in their business.
- The administrative & medical staff cannot dare question the ordeal because their own boss ordered it & they wouldn't want to lose their jobs.
- The counseling psychologist Mr.James Kamau, at the institution privately implored me forget the whole incident in order to spare Mediva's reputation so that they can just go on with business as usual.
- Yet I have to live the rest of my life & go to my grave with the post traumatic stress i.e unpleasant memories of the ordeal that was inflicted on me.
The CEO of Mediva sadistically told me off that she does not care about my life experience!
So if the Directors & Management of Mediva Wellness Centre operate with such sheer arrogance devoid of medical ethics & professionalism, how many other victims have gone through & will go through what I experienced in future?
Physical Violence & Brutality are tools of subjugation & mind control because they are intended to break the human spirit by inflicting sudden pain & inducing fear in a victim.

In 2019, my mother paid Dr.Kigamwa yet another renowned psychiatrist, to secretly send a male nurse to our home at night to inject me without my consent or any prior counseling.
- I just saw a man coming into my room with a syringe at night as I prepared to retire to bed. I fought him off so hard that he couldn't inject me that night. In addition I blurted out all the psychological, emotional & verbal abuses that were going on in our home.
The male nurse understood & just said our family needs family counseling. He left with his syringe rather embarrassed.
So in 2022, my mother decided to commandeer not just one but 3 men from Mediva Wellness Centre with the help of her 2 sisters knowing I couldn't possibly fight off 3 men alone as a woman.
When she can't control my mind to get me to do what she wants or I speak up about abuses going on in our home, my mother becomes evil, vindictive & controlling. She conjures up the most heinous ways to inflict emotional pain to dominate & force compliance instead of reasoning out with civility.
She secretly plans & pays psychiatrists to plan to have me ambushed at home to medicate me with anti-depressants without prior counseling which often reduce a patient to a dull zombie for days or months often with side effects of excessive weight gain from induced sleep! I left Mediva having gained over 10kgs to start a weight loss journey again.
It takes long to be weaned off such medication by which time one has wasted valuable time to do meaningful life activities.
It's the worst form of psychological abuse to do to a human being!
She should have done better as a mother, having been professionally trained in Counseling Psychology & Theology courses up to degree level.

Kenya is said to be predominantly Christian over 85% of the population adheres to the religion.
- But these mental health matters going on in christian homes are not discussed in churches!
Some clergy will do nothing to address mental health matters among their congregations but are very eager to exorcise "demons" from mental health patients terming them as "Mad or Insane" or bury suicide victims who were mentally disturbed! Mental health is often stigmatised as someone being mad or demonised.
The fct that some clergy/pastors are also running rehab centres privately so such issues are covered up in the interests of making money.
Sadly, there are also cases of psychological manipulation in churches like the Shakahola massacre which lead to further mental health problems.
Politicians we voted for are our lawmakers.
We often assume they will do something when we reach out to them on their social media pages or other communication channels they provide for the public.
There is a big disconnect between what is going on the ground & what the politicians are pushing for in the area of mental health.

I haven't received any official response from her either yet she says it's disturbing to see the number of suicides among young people in Kenya.
To me, it seems like it's just another strategy of being populist to remain relevant in our Kenyan politics by discussing a "hot topic" rather than to make any meaningful change in policies & laws about mental health.
Our politicians also have their own selfish interests, They have "vested interests" & "pet projects" they are focused on delivering before the next election cycle.
So they are constantly Gerrymandering..i.e meeting the needs of only the parts of the country they feel will count in the next election for their vote so as to remain in power.
Hence they are unperturbed about some of the problems in our country such as amending the laws in the health sector to protect us.
Evidently, there are Big Players in the Mental Health Industry who benefit a lot from the mass ignorance about patients' rights & lack of enforcement of Patients' Rights.
These are the Big Pharmaceuticals which make huge profits from drug sales. They work in cahoots with the psychiatrists who push the drugs/anti-depressants into patients bodies & make them addicted to them for years!
They can easily circumvent the loopholes in the system & impound innocent victims who are wrongly labeled, whisked into rehabs involuntarily & medicated forcibly.
As a society it seems like Kenyans have such seared consciences that until a victim of abuse commits suicide or is killed, nothing is ever done to address their plight when they speak up.
Then suddenly sensational articles appear on mainstream & social media..Family, friends, some attention-hungry politicians & celebrities hypocritically show up at the funeral pretending to be shocked donning coloured ribbons. As some mourners gossip in hushed tones about how they had an idea what was troubling the suicide or murder victim! It's too late by then!
We are so accustomed to seeing perpetrators of human rights abuses & injustices especially figures of authority in society going scot-free that we don't care much unless it happens/happened to us.
Family members are very Hypocritical & have Double Standards...I have been criticised by family members for speaking up about my traumatic experience..
They perceive the late Susan Kamengere's case as very unjust but trivialise my equally harrowing experience at Mediva..
Yet it was the sane kind of injustice! They expected me to suffer & remain silent because a parent should be honoured according to the Bible..regardless of whatever harm she causes me...& because Mediva is family-owned!
I hereby implore you to sign & share this petition widely to put a STOP to Involuntary Forced Hospital Admissions of Patients & uphold their fundamental human rights to Informed Consent & Autonomy.
The Law Must be enforced with regards to respecting the Patients' Bill of Rights. All the staff in Rehabilitation institutions in Kenya must be required to undertake the WHO Quality Rights training.
The Patients' Bill of Rights should be displayed in hospitals, rehabs & given to public to be aware of their fundamental patient rights.
Without enforcement of Patient's Rights anybody who claims to be a guardian or parent & has money can compromise a pyschiatrist or the management of a rehab to do their bidding.

There are less 200 psychiatrists serving a population of over 50Million Kenyans. This leaves Kenyans grossly under served for the mental health problems.
We are literally at the mercy of very few psychiatrists in a very unregulated sector open to human & patients' rights abuse.
If a person can so easily pay & compromise a psychiatrist to dispatch male abductors with injections without counseling patients then anybody can be forcibly ambushed, sedated & mistreated psychologically.

If these brutal abductions & medical injustices are happening in high end rehabs like Chiromo Hospital Group & Mediva Wellness Centre, what goes on in government run rehabs like Mathari Hospital?
- The Ministry of Health, Mental Health Board of Kenya & KMPDC are fully aware of the gruesome abductions & forced admissions in some rehabs.
- They hardly get investigated or reported because the victims are silenced like Susan or mentally destroyed forever using strong sedatives.
The agenda of 2nd National Mental Health Conference to be held in October 2025 at the J.W. Marriot Hotel, deliberately leaves out Negative Lived Experiences of Rehab Patients'..to paint a false image that Rehabs are safe places to be.
Nobody would imagine there are patients' rights violations or the possibility of murder in a rehab like Chiromo Hospital!
- The conference registration fees are so high that the ordinary Kenyans are locked out.Yet our hard earned taxes are being used to finance such national events where our mental health is to be discussed because the ministry has an annual budgetary allocation for such national conferences.
It's the selfish interests of the Elites in society, Psychiatrists, Counseling Psychologists, NGOs & Big Pharmaceuticals that are being addressed not the over 50 Million Kenyans who have serious mental health problems!

The Issue
- This petition is about You & I...All Kenyans & Unborn Generations whose Rights to Dignity must be protected at all costs.
It seeks to expose the rot & abuses that go unreported & uninvestigated in many mental health/rehab centres across our country & the need to uphold our fundamental Patients' Rights in our healthcare sector.
Today Mental Health is recognised as a national issue deserving utmost attention in all strata of our society.
The Mental Health Amendment Act Cap 248 was signed into law on 21st June 2022 by the former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Kenya Mental Health Policy 2015-2030 provides for a framework on interventions for securing mental health systems reforms in Kenya giving a roadmap for securing reforms and building strong mental health systems with ultimate goal of attaining the highest standard of mental health in Kenya.
This is to confirm that medical practices & gross violations of patients’ rights are prevalent in some rehab centres in the country.
Whereby controlling family members violate the human rights of their loved ones & collude with staff of the rehab centres to ensure brutal abductions, involuntary injections with sedatives & forced hospital admissions without their Informed Consent.
On July 16th 2025..Ms. Susan Kamengere’s was murdered at Chiromo Hospital where she was forcibly admitted after being abducted at home by 4 people.. sent by her abusive husband Mr.Alois Ngure.

Personally, I experienced a violent & brutal abduction & forced involuntary admission in the hands of the staff of Mediva Wellness Centre which was at the discretion of my parent i.e. my biological mother who organized & executed the uncouth barbaric heinous act.
Some parents who are unwilling to openly address conflict, psychological, verbal & emotional abuses that go on behind closed doors in their homes through dialogue instead resort to punishing their adult children by secretly planning for them to ambushed & thrown into rehabs to intimidate, subdue, control & silence them.

Unfortunately, our African culture & religious inclinations give our parents & guardians way too much leeway in the exercise of their parental authority which is often abused
Parental abuse goes unreported for fear of social stigma & reprisals from other family members.
Matters of gross violation of human rights are often trivialised within family circles & thrown under the carpet as the victims continue to suffer silently.
The Principles of Informed Consent & Autonomy were flouted by my mother, her 2 sisters one of them who is the CEO/Director of Mediva Wellness Centre & my own sister who is an NHIF officer.
The 4 of them ganged up to secretly plan how to have me wrongly labeled, ambushed in such a humiliating manner & forcibly admitted to the rehab to advance my mother's need to control me for her own sadistic pleasure, selfish interests.
To manipulate, dominate & punish me because I had begun speaking up about the emotional, psychological & verbal abuses going on in our home.
On what begun as a normal day on 30th October 2022, I was suddenly ambushed unawares early in the morning right in the privacy of my bedroom by 3 Male Strangers who are staff of Mediva Wellness Centre.
- I was violently manhandled, they attempted to forcefully inject me with some sedative as I frantically fought back in vain.
- The syringe one of the 3 men who were trying to inject me during the ambush, could have easily broken in my arm or another body part as I was in such an agitated frantic state of fight or flight mechanism imagining the worst as a woman.
I could have been maimed or paralysed for life because of nerve damage if the 3 men had succeeded in forcibly injecting me during the struggle in my bedroom because I was not prepared or willing to co-operate with them neither did I understand what their mission was.
All the ongoing personal life plans I had then as an adult, were rudely curtailed & jettisoned at the behest of my sadistic female family members who secretly planned the whole ordeal which was an invasion of my privacy.
It was really all about psychological torture rather than mental wellness because not only was I physically & psychologically traumatized as a human being, but I was also denied my Right to Autonomy & Freedom of Movement as an adult.
- At first, I had no idea what was going on just like the late Susan Kamengere who was caught offguard in her home! She assumed it was KPLC staff who had come.
- For me as a woman, seeing 3 male strangers I thought we had been ambushed by thieves in our home.
- The 3 men did not even introduce themselves or what their sordid mission was.
- I only realised my mother was the one who commandeered them, when she actually joined them & begun muzzling my mouth to silence me as I was screaming out loudly hoping to attract any neighbours attention to come to my rescue.
Subsequently, I was overpowered by the 3 men & my own mother, subdued, dragged out like a criminal into a waiting car & driven off at neck breaking speed to Mediva Wellness Centre in Thika still in my nightwear & slippers.
My knees were hurt as they got violently knocked on the walls of my bedroom door as I endeavoured to wrestle free of the grip of the 3 men as they roughed me up & dragged out.
Upon arrival at Mediva Wellness Centre, the 3 men forced me into a room where they all entered in full view of onlookers in the institution.
I was forced to strip & get injected without any prior counseling from a medical professional. I had to shout loudly to demand that 2 of the men who ambushed me leave the room for my privacy & allow me privacy with the male nurse who was to inject me.
After being forcibly injected I was directed to a room to sleep in, yet it was early morning hours before 10a.m. & I had just woken up a few hours earlier.
Ironically, suddenly the same male staff plus other admin & medical staff staff at the institution were willing to speak with me minutes after.
They all begun gently coercing & manipulating me to co-operate with their agenda since now I was locked up & I was literally at their mercy.
What followed was 6 weeks involuntary admission & solitary confinement in a room at the institution against my wishes without any access to the outside world via phone or access to internet except once in while when I requested to be allowed to speak to a friend or family member.
I got into a Stockholm Syndrome whereby captives unwillingly co-operate with their captors just to make their life bearable or get out of captivity sooner.
- Overnight my life had been hijacked & taken over. Any personal work/ business plans or appointments I had planned were abruptly ceased & canceled.
My abductors reverted to their normal duties within the rehab such as gardening, cooking, security as though they hadn't done anything wrong.
The 3 Men i.e. the watchman, gardener/groundsman who doubled up as a cook too sometimes & the male nurse who violently abducted me derived sadistic pleasure gloating over me throughout the time I was impounded at the institution knowing the indignity they inflicted on me as a woman during the brutal admission at home.
- They seemed so casual about it as though they are so used to doing the heinous act & were waiting for another sadistic assignment to pounce on another innocent victim in their home when the opportunity came around again to get another"patient".
- These men had no basic training in counseling or psychology so they were unperturbed & unapologetic about the psychological damage of their violent actions on the patients' psyche.
My own younger sister Ms.Angela Kamau was complicit in the whole sordid plan as she overstepped her mandate & abused her authority as an employee of NHIF by secretly allowing access my NHIF card details on the NHIF system for the staff of Mediva Wellness Centre to charge the card without my consent.
She gave the institution permission to charge it to cover bed charges without my consent.
- My NHIF card is always in my possession so I should have been consulted before I was admitted.
It was really all about inflicting utmost psychological torture rather than mental wellness as I was denied my Right to Autonomy & Freedom of Movement as an adult.
- I found out that other patients were also victims of this kind of humiliating violent abductions & admissions.
During my stay there, I observed in horror, as 2 other young men arrived at the institution looking so dehumanised as they were handcuffed like criminals being frogmarched by male staff of the rehab accompanied by their parents.
A most humiliating experience which we later discussed as patients commiserating about our individual experiences during our involuntary stay.
What makes it even more deceptive is the use of religious undertones to hoodwink/brainwash patients into compliance with the program & to almost sanitise the evil that was meted on us.
- Weekly Prayer services were conducted with a visiting pastor presiding over supposedly for spiritual nourishment yet my rights had been grossly violated in my admission & I had no business being there in the first place.
- This fostered my resentment further because as an adult I choose whether or not to attend church worship services but we were coerced/forced so it was like being treated like a child in the rehab.
I was forced into a "mental wellness" program I didn't understand or care to go through neither did I choose it for myself. My time during the 6 wks was taken from me forcefully & all my life plans rudely stopped.
At no time was I given the option to decide when to leave. I was held hostage in suspense. Such a shambolic affair.
There is a lot of psychological abuse & mind control going on in rehabilitation centres camouflaged as "mental wellness programs".
The Principle of Informed Consent in Medical Ethics refers to the idea that a person must be fully informed about and understand the potential benefits and risks of their choice of medical treatment.
The Principle of Autonomy recognizes the Fundamental Rights of Individuals to Self-Determination. This is rooted in society's respect for individuals' ability to make informed decisions about personal matters.

Principles of Beneficence, Non-Maleficence, Justice & Respect for the patients' autonomy with the 2 rules of confidentiality & veracity.
- Non Maleficence is the obligation of a physician not to harm the patient.
This simply stated principle supports several moral rules − do not kill, do not cause pain or suffering, do not incapacitate , do not cause offense, and do not deprive others of the goods of life.
Human Touch is very Important since it begins at Infancy for human beings.
The 3 male staff of Mediva Wellness Centre who roughed me up were not close relatives or friends so it was not consensual touch but purely Gender Based Violence.
GBV ..Gender based violence is one of the most socially tolerated forms of human rights violations. It is rooted in discriminatory cultural norms that make women more susceptible to the vice.
The term violence against women means any act of Gender Based Violence that results in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering to women including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty whether occuring in private or public life.
From my experience, I concluded that in Kenya there is absolutely no respect for women's bodies & men can easily manhandle women without facing the law.
This medical malpractice has adversely affected my mental health as a female adult as I now have PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as often I have negative memories & flashbacks of the harrowing incident.
The psychological trauma from being helpless when I was physically roughed up, subdued by the 3 male staff of the rehab & how I struggled to fight them off in vain has affected the way I relate with Men.
I have a heightened distrust & suspicion around men fearing if a man could suddenly turn violent against me even without the slightest provocation.
It made me search for a place to learn Self Defense Karate or Tae Kwon Do Classes to be armed to defend myself in future from any sudden attacks from men.
This sordid act organised by my mother would not have happened when my late father Mr.Harry Kamau who rested 4yrs ago was alive today. He was very protective as a father.
Sadly, some rehab centres such as Mediva Wellness Centre are so desperate for business & will go to such great lengths to commit such heinous barbaric acts on innocent Kenyans just to get patients admitted in their facility.
"Patients" are secretly hunted in homes like wild birds/animals & impounded for prolonged periods of time against their wishes.
They are psychologically tortured as they feel like incarcerated prisoners in a mental health institution forced into programs they never opted or chose to take.
Other cases of Forced Involuntary hospitalisations by rehab centres such Chiromo Hospital Group have been reported in media in the past too.
On Wednesday 16th July 2025...Kenyans woke up to the shocking & devastating news of a lady namely Ms.Susan .N. Kamengere..the Founder of Toto Touch who died at Chiromo Hospital after being brutally abducted at home by 4 people, forcibly injected, involuntarily admitted without her informed consent..at the behest of her husband whom she referred to as Alois & her Psychiatrist..Dr.Onyancha who was colluded with him.
Susan who was distressed & traumatised wrote about the harrowing ordeal on her Facebook page hours before she died. The post was pulled down as cover up but not before her friends had shared it online.

In her videos she could be heard complaining about the brutality & injustice she endured in the hands of the cold hearted medical personnel i.e the nurses at the Chiromo Hospital. She was injected forcibly & later killed by manual strangulation.

It is so unethical & abhorrent, that the doctors, nurses & hospitals we go to expecting compassion are so deceitful, cruel & heartless!

Mr.Kasmuel McOure a Gen Z Social Justice Activist & Revolutionary who has been vocal about his mental health challenges on Engage Talk in the past spoke about how his friends tricked him into getting admitted into a rehab centre in 2023.
He said that he still resents the treachery his friends devised to get him into the rehab without his informed consent which sabotaged his business plans because he was impounded in the rehab for much longer than he expected.

The use of brute force & deception to get patients into rehabs is very unacceptable & inhumane.
Patients resent being duped because they instinctively know that their Rights to Autonomy & Free Will as adults were grossly violated.

Many conflicts in families can be easily solved through group family therapy or counseling but instead innocent Kenyans like myself are wrongly labeled as mental health patients & their lives are rudely disrupted when the same abusive controlling family members get them thrown into rehab centres.
Sadly the victim of abuse in the rehab goes back to the same family members who abused them further because they are in denial that they need help themselves.
Mental health institutions which are supposed to promote mental wellness are doing the opposite because such traumatic violent forceful admissions affect the patients' psyche very negatively for life.

The facebook post copied below by a Lawyer Ms.Amazon Chepkirui paints a chilling picture of how Psychiatry is weaponised by sadistic family members to silence specific family members who are deemed too outspoken or independent in wealthy families by labeling them as mentally insane & having them thrown in to a high end rehab where they are heavily sedated to keep them subdued psychologically & dependent.
I have personally visited & made official complaints at the Ministry of Health, KMPDU, Kenya Mental Health Board, NHIF & several NGO organisations in the Mental Health Sector & others that defend Human Rights in the country..namely Kenya National Commission of Human Rights, Basic Needs, IMLU & Equality NOW.
I called & sent emails to the Kenya Psychologists Association & Kenya Psychiatrists Association too.
I did not get any official responses & Nothing was done until after Susan Kamengere's death brought to light these heinous crimes.
Often I was just given a cursory answer like "Pole!..sorry about what you went through"
- At the Ministry of Health they just stamped the letter & I never heard from them.
- At the Mental Health Board I met the CEO & officials who claimed that they are still not fully operational even after being incorporated 2yrs ago. This was to absolve themselves of any responsiblity.
The ladies in the office trivialised my complaint & casually informed me that they are aware that such acts of brutality are going on in rehabs & they can do nothing about it since they are not fully operational.
I was given the Mental Health Report by the Taskforce on Mental Health in Kenya which was commissioned by the former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
It is just a glossy book full of research data, recommendations & faces of high ranking officials in various positions across the medical, mental health & NGO sectors who were members of the members on the Taskforce on mental health.
One of the recommendations on page 16 was that Mental Health should be declared an "Emergency of Epidemic proportions."
It was printed with taxpayers' money, & is distributed freely to the public but the negative lived experiences & violations of human rights of mental health patients in rehabs are not captured therein.
So the Kenya Mental Health Board officials are just collecting salaries under the banner of mental health, convening & attending seminars in high end hotels, other conference venues & talking about policy formulation but having no impact on enforcement of laws that protect mental health patient rights.
Kenya Medical Practioners & Denstists Council (KMPDC) responded to an official complaint I made on email copied to several Kenyans & stakeholders in May 2024, promising to address the matter but they never did. It was just a mere formality with no real intention to act on the issue.
In September 2025...almost 2yrs later they wrote a Disciplinary Letter to Mediva to respond to my complaint within 2 weeks.
I also sent emails to other women in leadership, i.e. The Lady Justice Martha Koome office, Hon.Rachel Shebesh & Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the former Vice President's wife, who gave a keynote address in a Mental Health Seminar at the Ole Sereni Hotel Friday 22nd Sept. 2023 dubbed "Let Mental Health be a Human Rights Issue" as the article below elucidates.

Up to date I have never got any official responses from their offices.
So the presence of Women in our country's top leadership makes No Difference.
On November 6th, 2023 I had an interview with Thomas Bosire, a journalist for the Healthy Nation magazine in the Nation Newspapers from Nation Media Group at Nation Centre.
He deceitfully took me round in circles lying that an article would be written on the newspaper to expose this injustice..up to date, no news article has been published. So there is a deliberate cover-up..a Conspiracy of Silence.
- Why did the Nation Media Group waste my time interviewing & recording me, yet other news about human rights violations, abuse & crimes such as murders, thefts, gender based violence are reported real time within hours!?
- How come a random man holding a paper bag containing githeri in a queue waiting to vote during 2017 Elections became national news yet human, patients rights violations & abuse in rehabs is not quickly reported?
One is left to wonder whether the journalists simply trivialise the matter as a non-issue or they want to be bribed or coerced to write to expose these human rights violations or they have been bribed into silence about these injustices going on in the mental health sector.
Yet they advertise Mental Wellness Seminars convened by psychiatrists & mental health institutions.
Bad News sells in media. So the Nation Newspaper made millions much more from reporting on Susan Kamengere's death.. than when she was alive.
Perhaps she would be alive today if an article had been written in 2023 after I was interviewed. Kenyans would have be more enlightened & vigilant about such crimes.
That is why Social Media channels like Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube & Independent Media houses have in effect replaced mainstream media today as reliable sources of information.
Sadly, Corruption is so pervasive & endemic in Kenya that such cases go unreported as most patients cannot afford to seek legal redress in the corridors of Justice.
Even if they do try, nothing is done because perhaps bribery by the institutions may buy the silence of those who should defend the patients.
- There are Big Players in the mental health sector who will go to great lengths to cover up the rot in rehabs.
As a Kenyan woman I feel very betrayed & violated by the broken systems in our country & the abuse in my family.
- None of my siblings or relatives in the extended family spoke up in my defence either, when I complained.
- In their silence my 3 siblings were secretly in agreement..gloating too..happy that their older sister was dehumanised at the rehab..yet they would hate the same thing done to them.
- There is also a fear of offending or questioning parents due to our cultural norms & religious beliefs that imply parents are not to be questioned.
- Yet No other relative/s who have ever sought mental health services in the same or other rehabs has ever been subjected to such degrading inhumane treatment like I was. So I was just being victimised & targeted maliciously by my mother, my sister & aunties who sought to dominate & control me.
- Most family & close family friends aid & abet the crime that was committed through their silence because they take sides with abusers i.e abusive parents leaving the victim to suffer in silence.
- Ironically, if I died, suddenly the same family members & friends would hypocritically show up, quickly sign my condolence book & give glowing tributes, donning t-shirts emblazoned with my face to give me dignified send-off yet they turned a blind eye to the abuse I endured when I was alive!
What was done to me was not just a minor infraction but a major affront to my dignity as a human being & a woman.
It was a purely malicious premeditated act of Aggression, Subjugation & Dominance.
It was a classic case of malicious Bullying or Stilleto Syndrome by the women in my family who wanted to send a chilling message to me & my generation that they call the shots, can shut down & sabotage my life at a whim for as long as they wish by throwing me into a rehab secretly.
Injustice is the order of the day because the players in the mental health industry turn a blind eye & go on with life as if nothing happened.

Notably the subjects of Mental Health Patient's Rights & Lived Experiences of victims of abuse in rehabs are always conspicuously missing in Mental Health Seminars/Conferences because Psychiatrists, the Big Pharmaceuticals & Rehab Owners are protecting their selfish business interests!
It is not in their best interests for Kenyans to know the medical malpractices going on in rehabs..because they risk losing income.
- Psychiatrists & rehab owners do not want people being empowered to assert their Patient's Rights because they won't exploit their ignorance any more!
Most probably ever since I left Mediva several other innocent victims have been wrongly labeled, misdiagnosed, forcefully thrown into rehabs where they are being medicated involuntarily just like there are many innocent Kenyans languishing in prisons across the country having been wrongly framed for crimes they never committed!
Evil thrives in Darkness & when Good people do Nothing about it.
- Many innocent victims are unaware of their patients' rights or cannot vocalise their experiences & they return to the same abusers only to live in more mental torture reliving the experiences fearing being victimised again. Resorting to remain silent about the shameful experience.
My family had hoped that this sordid ordeal would remain as a "dirty family secret" because Mediva Wellness Centre is family-owned.
- I have chosen to speak up in the open because I am not an animal to be hunted, caged, tamed & controlled medically.
- If I was medicated continously for the 6weeks I would not be able to communicate as my brain would have been subdued & regressed for a long time.
Am not even a substance abuser, alcoholic or drug addict so I was not inebriated or high on drugs to warrant such extreme cruelty, barbarism during my forced involuntary hospitalisation.
- I want to expose this evil to help other hapless innocent victims in our country.
For the sole reason that some patients lives can be destroyed in rehabs from the side effects of long term use of sedatives, anti-depressants & the psychological trauma of forced hospitalisation.
If I remain silent it will set a very bad precedent for my family members who turned a blind eye to this blatant injustice to abuse their parental authority & feel emboldened to do it to me again at a whim.
They will assume they can wrongly label & commandeer men to ambush me or any other relative any time anywhere, throw them into Mediva & get away with it again..
It will perpetuate a misuse of mental health Institutions by abusive family members, guardians & parents to mistreat & psychologically manipulate & control their children.
Evidently there is a lot empty rhetoric & deceit regarding Mental Health in Kenya & what goes on behind closed doors in rehabs.
Mental Health is just a trending hot topic that gains national attention when several high profile Mental Health Events are convened annually with buzzwords such "decriminalization & destigmatization of mental health patients being bandied around lightly!
"Kwa ground vitu iko very different" as they say in slang i.e on the ground, mental health patients' rights are being grossly violated in rehab centres whose licenses are never revoked. The psychiatrists are allowed to go scotfree too when they violate patients' rights.
Mental Health Patients' Rights are deliberately left out in seminars & conference to filter out negative lived experiences of patients/victims.
World Health Organisation (WHO) has a Quality Rights Training which clearly stipulates the Rights of Mental Health Patients.
Majority of the medical staff in rehab centres like Mediva Wellness Centre have not even taken the WHO Quality Rights training so they violate mental health patients' rights without remorse oblivious of the consequences or ramifications of violating patients' human rights.
Psychiatrists can be compromised to silently go along with the vice.
Dr.Mbae Kendi who is the psychiatrist at Mediva Wellness Centre took a Hippocratic Oath to protect patients' rights but she never spoke up about the brutality meted on patients during admission.
- She coerced me into taking medication before I was discharged yet I had no business being there in the first place!
- I had no option but to accept it unwillingly since I wanted to get out sooner, go back to my rebuilding my life & recover the lost time.
Pushing medicine up patients' bodies is just part of the business model for rehabs. So as long as she just got paid as a psychiatrist she didn't care at all how patients got there.
I could not get in a word edgewise i.e. reason out with Dr.Kendi. She just pushed the narrative that I was sick & I must be medicated supposedly to balance my brain chemicals.
Yet no blood tests were ever done to show what levels of chemicals such as serotonin in my brain were unbalanced. It's such a medical hoax used to deceive patients into taking antidepressant medicines & sedatives!
My feelings of frustration with the way I was handled were constantly ignored & invalidated.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic the whole world was caught off-guard. Massive job losses & lockdowns led to depression across populations across the world.
Yet even then, we did not see psychiatrists ambushing innocent people on the streets or in their homes to inject them forcibly to balance brain chemical just because they were "depressed" during COVID-19.

After all Dr.Mbae Kendi is on the payroll in Mediva Wellness Centre, she was being paid to advance the interests of my mother & her 2 sisters, so I had no voice!
- She just labeled me, scribbled some notes & moved on to consult in other medical facilities or her own clinic to collect more doctor's fees. It's just about making money.
For some owners of rehabs, it's just another lucrative use for real estate/ property where they sell bed space, food & dispense medicine even to innocent people whose rights to freedom of movement, informed consent & autonomy are grossly violated. They should not be in there at all.
My mother,her 2 siblings & my own sister who were my abusers including the all staff of Mediva Wellness Centre would not wish & have never been subjected to the same humiliating ordeal they subjected me & other patients to as human beings.
Abusers are selfish narcissistic individuals who live in denial that they also need to be treated for a mental health problem.
As a woman, I should only fear being attacked by strangers outside our home not within our home where family members I trust live with me.
For fellow women who are mothers to plan such a heinous degrading act on me depicts just how entitled, controlling, heartless, cold-hearted & conniving mothers whom we trust & expect to be protective can be.
My mother & her siblings acted as though they owned me as a communal property they could do with as they wish disregarding my rights as an adult.
No normal mother in her right mind would even allow random strangers to manhandle her child or adolescent daughter so it was abhorrent for me to be subjected to such indignity as an adult.
Ironically, these same parents have the audacity to expect adult children they have psychologically abused to be there for them & take care of them later in their advanced old age.
It would be scorned if I got 3 strange men to violently ambush my mother unawares in her bedroom in her nightwear, drag her out indecently & throw her into hospital under the guise of caring for her in old age, but she expects to get away with committing such a sordid act of aggression on me.
There is a lousy retrogressive mentality of feeling justified to mete out harsh brutality & verbal abuse on their children even when they are adults ingrained in our parents that fuels the kind of abuse I was subjected to.
When they don't want to reason out or listen to adult children they resort to such acts of violence, labeling & throwing a person into a rehab to control & punish them.
My efforts to seek redress & straight answers from the directors & management of Mediva Wellness Centre were officially rebuffed & I was ignored as though I was just a mere statistic in their business.
- The administrative & medical staff cannot dare question the ordeal because their own boss ordered it & they wouldn't want to lose their jobs.
- The counseling psychologist Mr.James Kamau, at the institution privately implored me forget the whole incident in order to spare Mediva's reputation so that they can just go on with business as usual.
- Yet I have to live the rest of my life & go to my grave with the post traumatic stress i.e unpleasant memories of the ordeal that was inflicted on me.
The CEO of Mediva sadistically told me off that she does not care about my life experience!
So if the Directors & Management of Mediva Wellness Centre operate with such sheer arrogance devoid of medical ethics & professionalism, how many other victims have gone through & will go through what I experienced in future?
Physical Violence & Brutality are tools of subjugation & mind control because they are intended to break the human spirit by inflicting sudden pain & inducing fear in a victim.

In 2019, my mother paid Dr.Kigamwa yet another renowned psychiatrist, to secretly send a male nurse to our home at night to inject me without my consent or any prior counseling.
- I just saw a man coming into my room with a syringe at night as I prepared to retire to bed. I fought him off so hard that he couldn't inject me that night. In addition I blurted out all the psychological, emotional & verbal abuses that were going on in our home.
The male nurse understood & just said our family needs family counseling. He left with his syringe rather embarrassed.
So in 2022, my mother decided to commandeer not just one but 3 men from Mediva Wellness Centre with the help of her 2 sisters knowing I couldn't possibly fight off 3 men alone as a woman.
When she can't control my mind to get me to do what she wants or I speak up about abuses going on in our home, my mother becomes evil, vindictive & controlling. She conjures up the most heinous ways to inflict emotional pain to dominate & force compliance instead of reasoning out with civility.
She secretly plans & pays psychiatrists to plan to have me ambushed at home to medicate me with anti-depressants without prior counseling which often reduce a patient to a dull zombie for days or months often with side effects of excessive weight gain from induced sleep! I left Mediva having gained over 10kgs to start a weight loss journey again.
It takes long to be weaned off such medication by which time one has wasted valuable time to do meaningful life activities.
It's the worst form of psychological abuse to do to a human being!
She should have done better as a mother, having been professionally trained in Counseling Psychology & Theology courses up to degree level.

Kenya is said to be predominantly Christian over 85% of the population adheres to the religion.
- But these mental health matters going on in christian homes are not discussed in churches!
Some clergy will do nothing to address mental health matters among their congregations but are very eager to exorcise "demons" from mental health patients terming them as "Mad or Insane" or bury suicide victims who were mentally disturbed! Mental health is often stigmatised as someone being mad or demonised.
The fct that some clergy/pastors are also running rehab centres privately so such issues are covered up in the interests of making money.
Sadly, there are also cases of psychological manipulation in churches like the Shakahola massacre which lead to further mental health problems.
Politicians we voted for are our lawmakers.
We often assume they will do something when we reach out to them on their social media pages or other communication channels they provide for the public.
There is a big disconnect between what is going on the ground & what the politicians are pushing for in the area of mental health.
I took the initiative to send an email to Hon.Rachel Shebesh who is very vocal about her own struggles with mental health on her youtube channel.

I haven't received any official response from her either yet she says it's disturbing to see the number of suicides among young people in Kenya.
To me, it seems like it's just another strategy of being populist to remain relevant in our Kenyan politics by discussing a "hot topic" rather than to make any meaningful change in policies & laws about mental health.
Our politicians also have their own selfish interests, They have "vested interests" & "pet projects" they are focused on delivering before the next election cycle.
So they are constantly Gerrymandering..i.e meeting the needs of only the parts of the country they feel will count in the next election for their vote so as to remain in power.
Hence they are unperturbed about some of the problems in our country such as amending the laws in the health sector to protect us.
Evidently, there are Big Players in the Mental Health Industry who benefit a lot from the mass ignorance about patients' rights & lack of enforcement of Patients' Rights.
These are the Big Pharmaceuticals which make huge profits from drug sales. They work in cahoots with the psychiatrists who push the drugs/anti-depressants into patients bodies & make them addicted to them for years!
They can easily circumvent the loopholes in the system & impound innocent victims who are wrongly labeled, whisked into rehabs involuntarily & medicated forcibly.
As a society it seems like Kenyans have such seared consciences that until a victim of abuse commits suicide or is killed, nothing is ever done to address their plight when they speak up.
Then suddenly sensational articles appear on mainstream & social media..Family, friends, some attention-hungry politicians & celebrities hypocritically show up at the funeral pretending to be shocked donning coloured ribbons. As some mourners gossip in hushed tones about how they had an idea what was troubling the suicide or murder victim! It's too late by then!
We are so accustomed to seeing perpetrators of human rights abuses & injustices especially figures of authority in society going scot-free that we don't care much unless it happens/happened to us.
Family members are very Hypocritical & have Double Standards...I have been criticised by family members for speaking up about my traumatic experience..
They perceive the late Susan Kamengere's case as very unjust but trivialise my equally harrowing experience at Mediva..
Yet it was the sane kind of injustice! They expected me to suffer & remain silent because a parent should be honoured according to the Bible..regardless of whatever harm she causes me...& because Mediva is family-owned!
I hereby implore you to sign & share this petition widely to put a STOP to Involuntary Forced Hospital Admissions of Patients & uphold their fundamental human rights to Informed Consent & Autonomy.
The Law Must be enforced with regards to respecting the Patients' Bill of Rights. All the staff in Rehabilitation institutions in Kenya must be required to undertake the WHO Quality Rights training.
The Patients' Bill of Rights should be displayed in hospitals, rehabs & given to public to be aware of their fundamental patient rights.
Without enforcement of Patient's Rights anybody who claims to be a guardian or parent & has money can compromise a pyschiatrist or the management of a rehab to do their bidding.
They can easily abuse the healthcare system, wrongly label a person as depressed get them violently ambushed, thrown into a rehab & medicated for as long as they wish just to punish or control them.
We are created in the Image of our Creator, He gave human beings a FREE WILL.
He is a God of Righteousness & Justice (Psalms 89:14) & hates Injustice.
God reveals deep & hidden things. He knows what lies in darkness & light dwells in Him. (Daniel 2:22)
God saw everything that happened to me & other patients who don't have the courage to come out in the open & speak up.

There are less 200 psychiatrists serving a population of over 50Million Kenyans. This leaves Kenyans grossly under served for the mental health problems.
We are literally at the mercy of very few psychiatrists in a very unregulated sector open to human & patients' rights abuse.
If a person can so easily pay & compromise a psychiatrist to dispatch male abductors with injections without counseling patients then anybody can be forcibly ambushed, sedated & mistreated psychologically.
Doctors & Nurses literally bring the country to a grinding halt when they go on strike to demand for the rights for better remuneration & working conditions but as soon as they get what they wanted they do not care about patients' rights violations or medical malpractices.
It is You & I, ordinary Kenyans who can change or enforce our Laws to protect our fundamental human rights.
Kenyans need to know that NOBODY CARES UNTIL YOU ARE DEAD...& EVERYBODY CARES but you must DIE FIRST...for anything to be done!
- If the late Susan Kamengere had not written a facebook post & recorded herself before she was killed at Chiromo hospital her death would have been covered up in some medical jargon & remained a mystery to her family & friends.
If these brutal abductions & medical injustices are happening in high end rehabs like Chiromo Hospital Group & Mediva Wellness Centre, what goes on in government run rehabs like Mathari Hospital?
- The Ministry of Health, Mental Health Board of Kenya & KMPDC are fully aware of the gruesome abductions & forced admissions in some rehabs.
- They hardly get investigated or reported because the victims are silenced like Susan or mentally destroyed forever using strong sedatives.
The agenda of 2nd National Mental Health Conference to be held in October 2025 at the J.W. Marriot Hotel, deliberately leaves out Negative Lived Experiences of Rehab Patients'..to paint a false image that Rehabs are safe places to be.
Nobody would imagine there are patients' rights violations or the possibility of murder in a rehab like Chiromo Hospital!
- The conference registration fees are so high that the ordinary Kenyans are locked out.Yet our hard earned taxes are being used to finance such national events where our mental health is to be discussed because the ministry has an annual budgetary allocation for such national conferences.
It's the selfish interests of the Elites in society, Psychiatrists, Counseling Psychologists, NGOs & Big Pharmaceuticals that are being addressed not the over 50 Million Kenyans who have serious mental health problems!
You are not reading this petition per chance but because you can make a difference Today & for generations yet unborn.
By sharing this information widely & speaking up boldly about Patients' Rights in our country...you might save a life!
Kenya is the Land of our Forefathers & Ancestors where our Voices should Matter & Must be Heard!
It is about time we had a serious national dialogue on Patients' Rights in the health sector.
- A taskforce must be formed to investigate the widescale human rights abuses going on in rehab centres across our nation.
This conversation must be initiated & driven by the Kenyans like you & I...not the government.
