Instagram is becoming less and less safe for us and it's impacting communities of our spiritual practitioners, tarot readers, astrologers and other providers of metaphysical ,magical and even financial services Scammers are creating profiles with similar handles and stealing original creator's photos. They use the photos to pose as as the original creator, obtain followers linked to the original creator and take advantage of them

. The scammers are direct messaging followers that they have plucked from the lists of the individuals whose identity they are using and soliciting services and taking money from people who believe they are being offered a legitimate and valid service by the original creator.

Scammers begin with telling folks that they have an important message for them and can provide a reading for them for a fee. When asked to verify who they are scammers will often provide excuses or will become hostile.

This has to stop. Scammers are preying on innocent people by impersonating individuals who have significant followings or provide business or services. They are taking advantage of vulnerable and unknowing folks.

It is criminal. It is stealing. It is Identity theft.

Scammers have gone so far as to threaten people's lives. They have threatened individuals with spiritual harm. For our BIPOC communities this can be especially problematic.

1. We request that Instragram (Owned by Meta Platforms Inc. whose CEO is Mark Zuckerberg) take immediate action to prevent this from happening.
2. We request that clear and concise steps be taken to verify or validate an Instagram profile.
3.  We request that once a scammer account is reported that it be placed on an immediate block.
4. We request that Instagram work with authorities to open investigations and those criminals who are found guilty are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
5. We request that Instragram (Meta) publicly acknowledge this serious problem and what steps they are taking to stop it.
