Stop Incarcerated Murderers from Accessing IVF Treatment

The issue

As a man who aspires to have a family of my own through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), the knowledge that a convicted murderer in a Victorian prison is granted the chance to use this service deeply troubles me. This service, I believe, should be reserved for those who genuinely deserve it, not for someone who has brutally taken the life of a loving mother of three children.

Murder has profound and lasting impacts on the families left behind. It has been reported that around 88% of surviving children experience difficulty at school and 55% have their relationships impacted after losing a parent to murder (Source: Victim Support Services Australia). It's incredibly unjust to allow individuals who inflict such devastation to benefit from a service meant to create life.

The current law permitting prisoners to access IVF treatment is deeply flawed and needs an immediate reform. We urge the Victorian Government to reconsider these regulations. A prison sentence should convey the gravity of the crime committed, and allowing murderers access to IVF greatly undermines this.
