The Issue

Stop the Deportation of Iman Asghari from Georgia and Ensure His Immediate Transfer to a Safe Country

We call on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the European Parliament, the European Union, the Government of the United Kingdom, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and other international human rights organizations to take immediate action to prevent the deportation of Iman Asghari from Georgia.

Due to his political activities, Iman Asghari would face a serious risk of persecution and violations of his fundamental human rights if returned to Iran, including threats to his life, freedom, and personal security. Furthermore, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has refused to renew his passport, leaving him in a vulnerable and uncertain situation and significantly increasing the risks he faces.

We urge the international community to uphold human rights principles and the principle of non-refoulement by preventing any deportation or forced return of Iman Asghari to a country where his life and safety would be at risk, and by facilitating his immediate and safe transfer to a secure third country.

Every day of delay may have irreversible consequences for his life and future. We call for urgent and effective intervention by the relevant authorities and international organizations to ensure the protection, safety, and human rights of Iman Asghari.
