End the Madness: A Campaign Against Loan Sharks in Nigeria

LAGOS – In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new predator emerged in Nigeria's financial landscape: the digital loan shark. Operating through unregulated loan apps, these entities have become a source of chaos and destruction, pushing countless Nigerians to the brink of despair and even suicide.

Despite the best efforts of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), these illegal lenders continue to operate with impunity, leaving a trail of ruined reputations, blackmail, and trauma.

A Reign of Terror and Defamation
These loan sharks are not merely unethical; their methods are criminal. They resort to intimidation and blackmail, often forging Nigerian Police Force (NPF) letterheads and using fake police station details to harass and publicly shame their clients. This vicious cycle of defamation has destroyed the lives of many, leading to severe depression and, tragically, a rising number of suicides. The astronomical interest rates they impose make repayment nearly impossible, trapping borrowers in a debt spiral with no escape.

The government has taken steps to curb these activities, but the question remains: Are loan sharks truly untouchable? Their illegal and unregulated operations make them difficult to track, leaving many to wonder if these financial predators are invincible.

A Call to Action: Sign the Petition
This is not just a financial problem; it is a public health and safety crisis. The mental and emotional toll on their victims is immeasurable, and the rising rates of suicide and depression are a testament to the devastating impact of their actions.

We must stand together and demand an end to this madness. By signing this petition, you can help us amplify our collective voice and demand stronger, more decisive action from the government. We call for a full-scale clampdown on these illegal operations and for justice for the victims whose lives have been shattered.

Join the fight. Sign the petition. Let's put a stop to loan shark madness in Nigeria.
