Stop Illegal Ivory Sales in Pennsylvania

The Issue

A shocking undercover investigation has exposed a thriving illegal ivory market right here in Pennsylvania. Hundreds of ivory items, including jewelry, carved tusks, and even a taxidermied giraffe head, were found for sale in antique shops and flea markets across 18 counties. None of the sellers could provide documentation proving the ivory was legally sourced. Some even tried to hide the truth by labeling it "bone."

This is happening while elephants, giraffes, and other majestic species continue to be slaughtered for their body parts. Pennsylvania is one of the few states that still allows the unregulated sale of these products. That must change now.

House Bill 994 would ban the sale of parts from endangered species, including ivory and rhinoceros horn, within the state. It's already cleared the House Judiciary Committee. But unless lawmakers hear from us, the bill could stall.

We, the undersigned, call on the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to pass HB 994 without delay. Let’s close the loopholes that allow illegal wildlife trafficking to thrive. Let’s protect endangered animals – not profit from their extinction.
