The Issue

I have spent my entire life in Mumbai, and the city has always been a source of great pride for me. However, witnessing the increasing neglect and disregard for public cleanliness and heritage sites has been disheartening. The footpath adjacent to the iconic Masina Hospital in Byculla East, Mumbai, has become a constant eyesore and health hazard due to the rampant illegal dumping of garbage, despite clear notices forbidding this act.

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has placed notice boards on Sant Savta Marg, explicitly stating that garbage disposal on the footpath is prohibited. However, many individuals continue to flout these regulations, ignoring the MCGM's directives. This isn't just about cleanliness—it's about respecting legal authorities and preserving the integrity of our city's heritage sites like Masina Hospital.

Recently, both the Supreme Court and the High Court have passed judgements reinforcing the importance of adhering to public cleanliness directives, especially in matters concerning public health and heritage preservation. Disobeying such orders not only shows a blatant disrespect for law and order but also poses serious health risks to pedestrians and the community at large.

Given the legal precedents, people found guilty of these violations should face severe penalties, including heavy fines and imprisonment. This measure is not simply punitive but necessary to deter future violations and instill a sense of civic responsibility in our communities.

For too long, the footpath of the prestigious Masina Hospital has been subjected to misuse, harming both the environment and the reputation of our beloved city. We need the BMC Municipal Commissioner of Greater Mumbai to take stringent action against these violators and enforce the judgments of our courts.

Let's unite to restore the dignity of our community spaces and uphold the rule of law. Sign this petition to urge the authorities to rigorously enforce fines and legal actions against those who illegally dump garbage, thereby safeguarding our heritage sites and ensuring a healthier and cleaner Mumbai.
