Stop illegal fireworks on San Francisco beaches

Stop illegal fireworks on San Francisco beaches
The Issue
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) park authority, the San Francisco Police Department, and the San Francisco Fire Department must together work out a solution to stop the use of fireworks on Ocean, Sutro, and other San Francisco Beaches listed below. The law is clear: 18 U.S.C. Section 842. Specifically, regarding the unlawful use of explosives and fireworks in National Parks, that is expressly addressed in 36 C.F.R. Section 2.38. Regarding fireworks in the GGNRA, the online posting reads as follows: "Do NOT Bring Fireworks. The use of personal fireworks is not allowed within Golden Gate National Recreation Area, including on Ocean Beach. There are many reasons for this prohibition including public safety and the negative effects of fireworks on wildlife. The Bay Area is home to many species of birds. Birds may abandon their nests due to illegal fireworks explosions. Park Police and Park Rangers patrolling Golden Gate National Recreation Area will confiscate, and issue citations for using fireworks.” (https://www.nps.gov/goga/learn/news/plan-ahead-for-july-4-holiday.htm The fireworks also disrupt the lives of those, humans and pets, living in Outer Richmond. The fireworks put the buildings at risk of fire when fiery pieces land on the roofs of the apartment buildings. The detonation of the explosives is going on in the parking lot at the visitor’s center, the surrounding trails, Land’s End, Sutro Baths, the USS Memorial Fort Miley, and the Sutro Baths. There are raves being held in the caves and cars have made access via the gate at Seal Rock Drive. While the public has repeatedly through letters and calls brought this to the attention of authorities for public safety, nothing has been done. We demand that the laws be enforced by those who are responsible for their enforcement now.
