Stop Illegal Attack at Schoolyard by Land Mafia Aided by Trinamool Congress

The Issue

We rejoiced when Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress won a historic election in W Bengal with promises to fight Land Mafia, Corruption, and to protect the poor.

But in Ranaghat, Land Mafia aided by 2 local Leaders of Trinamool Congress, are now illegally occupying and tearing down the walls at the playground at SEEschool.org's charitable school for women and children, endangering the students and the foundation at Gatak Para.

For 17 years, Shakti Empowerment Education Foundation's Ramakrishna Vedanta Society Vidyapith and Satish Palchowdhury Trust Children's Park (www.SEEschool.org) have provided free education for 300 children and women, literacy, vocational classes and village women’s microfinancing, a library and clinic for the poor.

Co-founded by Indrani, award-winning photographer, director, TV personality and Princeton grad, and her CA father Ajay Pal-Chaudhuri who returned to India to run the school, the foundation has gained thousands of international supporters, who are raising a world-wide media response to the attacks.

The school and children's park have been featured in many articles, Times of India, News from Nadia, Asiance Magazine etc and was the subject of an episode of the American TV documentary-series “Double Exposure” now airing in over 50 countries.  (For more info visit: http://www.facebook.com/SEEschool.org, www.SEEschool.org, and contact indrani@alumni.princeton.edu)

We ask Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress, and the Indian Media, to hold local leaders accountable: restore the 10laks rs damages from tearing down walls and trees, and protect this charitable school, its women and children, and its grounds from illegal occupation and harassment. Please join us in supporting the rights and education of illiterate women and poor children in Ranaghat, West Bengal.
