Stop Hunworth Common telecoms mast

The Issue

An application has been made by Cornerstone, a telecoms company, to build a 30-metre telecom mast on Hunworth Common.

Barely 7 acres, but packed with a diverse range of plants, trees and wildlife, many species indicating the ancient nature of the land this tiny area of common land is designated a County Wildlife Site and is within the Hunworth conservation area. Treasured by local people it is one of only a few sites in the area where people can  walk freely and be in nature with no restrictions.

The imposition of this mast and its associated ground station would devastate the proposed site, ecologically and visually. Straddling an area where this spring a conservation group planted three hundred trees, provided by North Norfolk District Council the mast structure would be starkly and unavoidably visible to anyone walking on the common from any direction.

This plan sets a worrying precedent introducing industrial structures for here and other areas of common land, especially as there is a stated likelihood of expansion and mast sharing by the telecoms company.

Better telecom connectivity is in the interests of all living in the area but should not be at the expense of this rare natural resource. Hunworth Common, must be protected from this unnecessary exploitation and an alternative site identified.

Please sign this petition to register your objection to the use of Hunworth Common for a telecoms mast.

Please leave a comment about your personal reasons for signing. It will be really useful for the campaign.
