Stop Hounslow Council's Imposition of a Conservation Area on the Glebe Estate

The Issue

I remember attending a public meeting when the idea was first proposed that the Glebe Estate should become a conservation area. A woman stood up emotionally explaining how she had moved to the Glebe so her growing family could have more room. Now, in 2024, amidst a cost of living crisis, Hounslow Council wants to impose a conservation area on us residents.

Despite the climate emergency in Hounslow the Council has failed to properly consider the environmental impact this additional conservation area will have.

The homes in conservation areas are less energy efficiency, have lower investment in energy efficiency upgrades and consume much higher levels of energy. With the effects directly attributed to the planning requirements for otherwise permitted developments, a comprehensive improvement in energy efficiency will become unobtainable for many.

In 2021, a consultation was held which received petitions objecting to the conservation area proposal. One such petition garnered 82 signatures - clear evidence that many residents are against this imposition. Yet despite these objections and our current economic climate, the council is pressing ahead with their plans.

We understand and respect the importance of conserving our environment and heritage but not at the expense of hardworking families who are already struggling with rising costs. We urge Hounslow Council to reconsider their decision and look at alternative solutions such as issuing design guidance to residents.

Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving both our community’s freedom and its heritage without imposing undue burdens on its residents.
